Interview with Forgotten Boys, 23 October 2004
NB - Introduce yourself.
C - i am Chuck, singer and guitar player for the Forgotten Boys.
NB - Tell me a short story of Forgotten Boys.
C - the band began 'cos there were nobody playing honest rock and roll in brazil at the time, so, we decided to make a band witch we would like to see performing. it was back in 97. we have played so far we the stiff little finger, the backyard babies, lurkers, even we were the background band to Marky Ramone on a special Ramones songs show here in Brazil. we have already 3 albuns released (one of those released outside Brazil by No Fun Records, USA), we are getting the new split we Motosierra (Uruguay) out and preparing the new full one, that is going to be a killer.
NB - What's going on in Brazil - bands, labels, gigs ... ?
C - everything goes here, everykind of band now, the scene is full of great rock bands, everyone doing their stuff, but also, it is full of shit, like everywhere else... we really miss profissionalism on gigs, and peoploe here dont seam to like bands that sing in English, we understand, bus just dont give a damn fuck about it.
NB - Do you play lot of gigs? How many people usually come to your and other garage band's gigs?
C - we, i can say we play a lot for a band like our. this year we will complete 60 gigs, with no producer, menager or even roadies, we do everything by ourselves, and that is not a option. we ahev played in festivals to 50.000 people and small club shows to 200 or even 100 people. but this is now, i remember the 5 people days.
NB - Do you play often in other neighbor South American countries? How is the sphere there?
C - this year we have been for the first time in argentina to make 5 gigs, they were all great, they seamed to have loved us by there... i will return for certain, but we want more, of course... we want to be to Europe one day.
NB - Are there lot of people in Brazil who are into punk rock and garage, or is everybody into metal, hardcore, hip hop ...? How big is garage punk scene in Brazil actually?
C - hum... it is big, but also, small-minded... i doint know how to explain that... we have a huge country, too many curures and things to do, but every place is too far from each other... and we have all kinds of people and bands here, we particulary listen to evrything, but, a lot of people seam to be very colsed minded to everything.
NB - What kind of stuff do you listen to? Is it difficult to get records you like in Brazil?
C - well, in days like these we have internet, but, we can get some good records here... we listen to all the classinc in the 70's since punk rock to heavy metal and reggae, also rolling stones and dylan of course. bands like the Hellacopters, Turbonegro and the Wildhearts have had good influences to us.
NB - What else are you doing except for playing in Forgotten Boys? Can you live from your music?
C - hell no, we all have our jobs. i worked for several year as director and producer for MTV Brazil and now i take cooking classes, Gustavo is a designer, Flavio work as dj in some clubs and Ze is son of his mother.
NB - Do you have fans outside Brazil? Is it difficult to distribute your CDs in other countries?
C - we are getting into it now... maybe this is the first interview we give to Europe ever.
NB - 5 things you hate the most?
C - i hate waiting, i hate bad food, i hate bad sound equipment, i hate closed minded people and i can say i hate the US in some way.
NB - Anything you want to say to No Brains Readers?
C - thank you guys very much for giving us the very first chance to get to you people by an interview, and just wait until we get to you, we will do it. stay clean, stay cool and stay honest, always. we love what we do.
