Interview with Kalle and Frederik from Local Oafs, 13 May 2003
NB - Hi Oafs! Please introduce yourselves.
K. - Well, my name is Kalle and sometimes Shawn Michaels and I play guitar and sing.
F. - My name is Fredrik and sometimes Nero and I also play guitar and sing ... On drums we have Chewbacca and on bass we have Max Solo.
NB - How and when did you start?
K. - It was on Max eighteenth birthday (1999) when we sat in a train station drinking and screaming.
NB - Tell me about your releases (what did you release till now and on which
labels)?
F. - For current info please check http://localoafs.cjb.net The labels we've worked with so far are our freinds labels. Nothing fancy really...
K. - Strandad Sjobuse Records http://vanishingvanity.cjb.net , Cage Match Records http://fukktown.cjb.net and Subway Star Records http://subwaystar.cjb.net and a comp on Sik Records.
NB - Is it difficult to find label that wants to release your stuff?
K. - We don't really know cause as we said there are most friends of us that have released us ... But I guess it would be pretty hard to find good people that we don't know yet.
F. - Some dumb bastard who'd put his/her lunchmoney on a Local Oafs record.
NB - What do people think about your lyrics and music?
F. - Some like it some don't. A lot more people in the first cathegory than I thought at first.
K. - Some people that like us as a live act seems to be very aggitated by our recorded stuff because they don't like our studiosound. This makes it very easy for us to seperate smart people from dumb people.
NB - Well, I didn't have chance to see you live yet, but do you think there is a big difference between your studio and your live sound? What do these dumb people say?
K. - Hardcore people seem to have this thing for Heavy Metal sound, something I cant understand or tolerate. When these people see us live, they most often say they like us but when they get their hands on one of our seven inches they claim to hate the distorted sound. We are happy with our recorded sound and wish we could achieve it live while Heavy metal hardcore posers wants our recorded sound to be more like the live sound but let me tell you something Vanya, that wont happen! We are a punkband!
F. - We always try to get a raw sound live but we don't really have any reliable amps and stuff so we use whatever is at the venue. That can result in different sound from gig to gig.
NB - What's your main inspiration for songs?
F. - About half the stuff is from Simpsons, we steal a lot from Simpsons like all other bands today. If we lived more interesting lives I guess more would come from our reality but there's just not enough material there. There would be like six songs a year.
K. - I guess thats why alot of the newer songs is about how boring our lives are and how eager we are to leave it. But I guarantee you that we sing about every little thing that happens in our real life. Like the time when a half naked pissed off neighbour screamed at us when we played PS2 ... The rehersal after that incident we had two songs about it.
NB - Is Nyköping so borring? You should come to Holland and see what's borring!
But anyway, what's your favorite Simpsons episode and who's your favorite Simpson?
K. - My favourite character is Ralph Wiggum. I love is oafy ways. My favourite episode must be the one when Homer wants to work at home and eats his way to freedom. I also like Gil the businessman by the way.
F. - My favourites are Homer, Ralph, Clancy, Burns, Gil and Cletus. My favorite episodes are probably the one mantioned above and the Casino episode. Nyköping, boring?!? Well, I guess we COULD live our lives more on the edge and do more Rose Tattoo type lyrics but we're too lazy. When you don't have a jetset lifestyle it gives you time to think.
NB - You seem very pissed off. What makes you so angry - mostly?
K. - Anyone with our psyche would be pissed, I guess.
NB - Ok, tell me about your psych, what's in your mind mostly?
K. - I think we are those kind of people that focus a bit to much on negative stuff around us, this is probably because the lack of positive stuff but I can get pissed on everything. School, work, parents, friends, Norrköping (a right wing city outside Nyköping), Actionrock and bla bla bla
F. - I just worry a lot.
Stuff on TV and people I meet makes me mad. I guess some people wake up like the Brady kids in the morning but I'm just not one of those people.
NB - Who are Brady kids?
F. - The brady Bunch is an american sitcom. The kids in the Brady Family are very positive and always tend to break out in a song and dance number. They did a movie remake with Shelly Long (Cheers, Troop Beverly Hills etc.) a couple of years ago.
NB - Tell me about Sweden and place where you live.
F. - Sweden is pretty big, bigger than your country but it's only about nine million living here which is quite good cause you don't wanna meet too many people. Our capital is Stockholm and that city is exclusive for fascists so we don't go there often. If Discharge went to Stockholm they'd die from an heartattack when they saw that miserable city, it's that bad!
K. - It really pisses me off that people outside Sweden just see Stockholm and Gothenburg and misses the magical Nyköping were we hail from. In Nyköping everything is different. except for some liberals we are mostly runned by friendly leftwingers and the punkrockscene is united like no other. We buy each other beers and videogames and talk with each other about emotions and such. In Nyköping a man isn't afraid to hug another man.
F. - All you europeans who reads this and who lives in shitty cities: Move to Nyköping Sweden and things will change for you. You can borrow videogames, homosexual videotapes and Wrestling memorabilia from us.
NB - If you could change something in this world, what would you do?
K. - I guess I wold blow up alot of the european capitals and of course the USA and make big parking lots and arcade halls of them.
F. - That doesn't take a lot of rebuilding in the US. I'd give some of our friends diplomatic immunity so the police can't touch them anymore.
NB - Kalle, please tell me about your label - Subway Star Records.
K. - I've relased some 7" and I guess there will be some more. I've released acts like The Monsters, The Hollywoods, The Nearly Deads, The Pricks, The Rat Hole Sheikh and Branko. Soon I will have a great 7" out with Nazis From Mars that will get me a hole lot of money.
NB - I heard Monsters, Hollywoods, Pricks. Tell me about the others.
K. - The Rat Hole Sheikh is a great one man band with this guy called Mike McCann. He is originally from England but lives in Sweden now and records his stuff in the kitchen. He is great! The Nearly Deads is a two piece blus thing from Portland. They have recently broke up though but both members have new interesting bands like The Pist Uns and Juniors Gang. Branko is a pretty new instro act from Sweden. It's very rhythmic and crazy and the songs really get to your brain and slowly break it down.
NB - What do you like to do most?
F. + K. - Videogames, board games, TV, drinking, mongo-music.
NB - Mongo-music?
F. - Just good music.
NB - Any hobbies?
F. + K. - No.
NB - Your TOP 5 records of all time?
F. - Beach Boys "Sunflower", Beach Boys "Today", Beach Boys "Summer Days, Summer Nights", Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" and Beach Boys "Wild Honey"
K. - 1910 Fruit Gum Company "Goody Goddy Gum Drops", The Dwarves "Are Young And Good Looking", Ramones "Leave Home", Local Oafs / Music/Ninja "Essen Sie Punk" and Idyls "Cant Stand The Idyls"
NB - What do you think about:
NB - mods
K. - There just like raggare nowadays but they can't afford a car so they have theese stupid vespas.
F. - Some mod bands made some pretty decent music like Jam or Who but it seems to draw the worst kind of people. I hate their moptops and their suits.
NB - Raggare?
K. - Raggare is a bunch of people that have a thing for the "American lifestyle", or what they consider to be the American lifestyle. They all have these old American cars and the southern flag on their jackets and usually pick fights with punks. They hang around with nazis and listens to euro disco from 94.
F. - I've heard that raggare is a kind of freaks who always beat the greeks. They're nuthin'. Nuthin' nuthin' nuthin' but animals. Most of the raggare (like most of the actionrockers) where born in an era when the swedish goverment alvays poked the baby in the mothers tummy with a clotheshanger which was dipped in neuosedyn. The gouvernment thoght they where producing super humans or sosse-soldiers but they were playing games with mother nature. They created people with too many chromosoms and only ister (dunno what that's in english) in theri brains. So it's true, it's damn true - Donkey, monkey, Kangeroo. They have no no no no no no IQ!
NB - art
K. - I really don't mind the art itself it's more the young and eager I hate. You don't want to drink with someone who consider her - himself an artist.
F. - Some artforms like music and movies have proven to be ok for passing time. These artforms are unfortunatly somtimes corrupted with the ideals from the cultural elite. When people try to feed you shit like modernism or worse post modernism you just have to cut the bastards open with a broken bottle.
NB - cars
K. - They're necessary if you wanna play outside your hometown.
F. - I have a Mitsubishi.
NB - Jenifer Lopez
K. + F. - If I would screw anyone in showbiz it would be Jennifer Lopez and Puffy you know this. I'd screw her even if she was my mother and use nu rubber. Then I'd have a son and a little brother at the same time. And say he ain't mine.... The Cell and Money Train was good movies apart from that she suck!
NB - alcohol + drugs
F. - I like beer, liquer and wine. If you by drugs mean medication some of us need them to survive but you won't see me down the streetcorner trading my Telly Savalas 7":s for cp-pot to some hippie fuck that's for sure.
K. - Same goes for me but there wont be much drinking for me the comming summer because I'll probably have to pee in a cup all summer just to keep my driving license and we really need that Mitsubishi to go to buy videogames...Fuck the police!
NB - religion
K. - I like voodoo.
F. - Voodoo and old fashioned devil worshipping is good. Don't care much for the rest.
Least favourite religions top 4:
1. Buddhism
2. Christianity
3. Judism
4. New Age
