Interview with Creteens, 17 Mei 2004

NB - Please introduce yourself!
b1 - Hi, i'm Benjamin. I sing and i play guitar in The Creteens.
Anne-So - hi, I'm anne-sophie and I play the drum in the Creteens.
b2 - Ben - I'm the bass player.

NB - How long do Creteens exist?
b1 - Almost one year now... I started to write & record songs in my basement with my 4 tracks during july 2003. I first thought i'd play alone on stage, with my drums machine. But i finally made the choice to play with people , so i got Benoit as the bass player, and Guillaume as the drummer. We had our first practice on august 2003 and our first show (at the famous twin towers fest!) on september of the same year. In january, Benoit had to leave in africa for 2months, and Guillaume left the band cause he had opportunities to go on tour with a french band named Sublime cadaveric Decomposition (!!). I played a few shows alone, then, Benoit came back and Anne Sophie came to play drums with us. Until now, there's nothing much more to say!

NB - How did you meet?
b1 - Benoit played guitar in a short-life-band with me one year ago. And I've met Anne Sophie two years ago, when i was hangin' around in hardcore shows and she was playing with her other great band Booby Trap!

NB - How old are you guys?
b1 - I'm 15
b2 - I'm13
anne so - I'm 14

NB - Garage trash punk is more scene for older generations - at least here in Holland. How do they react on your music? Or maybe things have changed and there are more younger people into it now? You probably know better than me.
b1 - We played shows for many kind of crowd : garage, punk, hardcore, skinhead,etc. Seems that people always had fun when we played. About the rock'n'roll scene in Paris, i'd say there's not many teenagers...
b2 - Burn the old generation. In france, we call that : "la canicule".

NB - I really think you're great band - for sure one of the greatest new bands. Did you get any offers from labels to put your stuff on record/CD?
b1 - Well, first, thank you! we have some contact but nothing concrete, I didn't had the time to take care of putting something out. I wanted to play shows before doing anything else, but i'm open to everything! (well, NOT everything ;) )

NB - You're from Paris what's going on there?
b1 - Nothing's really exciting about Paris. No many good bands, no places to play, no places to stay for cheap, nothing to do... hehehe, but i'd better be here than anywhere else in france!
b2 - There are lots of good bands : Operation S, Les Drageurs, Defenestrors, Anteenagers M.C., les Terribles...
b1 - Well, everybody has their own tastes... hehe

NB - There is one thing that is really not very clear to me when I listen to your songs. Your drums - do you have drummer, or drum computer or you combine both? You have this great drum sound that remind me of Metal Urbain.
b1 - As i said, i started playing alone with drums machine, that's what you can hear on the demo. I use the cheapest sounds ever... maybe that's why it reminds you MetalU, hehehe...
b2 - "Creve Salope" is a very good song.

NB - Who writes the songs? Can you tell me more about "My baby don't shower"?
b1 - I do write the songs. "My baby don't shower" is about a diiirty girl from New york ;-)
b2 - b2 - It's not about you Benjamin ??
b2 - b1 - I'm a man of the future, i do not waste water

NB - Do you play gigs outside France?
b1 - We didn't yet. I try to set up shows in NYC and midwest for this summer, i'll play alone though...

NB - What is the first thing you do when you get up in the mourning?
b1 - I NEVER get up in the morning. At 3, i check my Emails, and put the pizza in the oven
b2 - I play a record, I make a coffe and I burn a cigaret
anne-so - Restroom!

NB - Which records did you play today?
b1 - Skip James live, the cramps -> psychedelic jungle, and Johnny Cash live at folsom pen!
b2 - Hasil Hadkins, Die Hunns, Minor Threat, THe kidnappers (the best album of the last year I think)
anne-so - human alert: bravo boys!
