Interview with Mash Gordon, 2 November 2004

NB - Please introduce yourself.
DB - Ok.Its me diskobernd.I was born in the beautiful town of Karl Marx.I got a dog,called disko and he is our disko dancing dog.
LW - Hello No Brain People I'm luweed. I never change my bautyful "flat-loo-town" since i was born.........i got a poodl doll aka "tha tipsypoodl" but i can't go around with him cause I am afraid of a lunatic asylum

NB - How did Mash Gordon start?
DB - We meet eachother in the same House(we live together in one house in dresden).Someday I said to Lu *lets do some tunes*
LW - Yeahh we came together when db tryed to burned my coks

NB - Why name Mash Gordon?
DB - We positively wanted a name with the word*Mash* , cause in german this means *Brei*! And we like the 70s cartoon flash gordon----so the name was born.
LW - our first midi contakt was on a late evening, the sound was very mashy and we said.....oohhh man what a mash...mash...peng-- MASH GORDON MASH and COMICS our favourit things

NB - Can you describe your weird music to No Brains readers and tell us which instruments you use to make it?
DB - For live shows ,I use my 303 drumcomputer and a old fucking fender- stratocaster copy guitar, and our sampler su-200. Its the punkrock equipment for such music we make. Cheap(we never got enough money) and simple to use. We describe our music as *Actionbratwurstelektroschweinerock*---HAHA!!, but its a kind of elektronik-minimal-trash-punk.
LW - I use a Korg Electribe Synth uuuyeaah it's a hot baby it's my first synth...... it's so cheap and simple just perfect for 2-part- step_recorded electro-punk

NB - You remind me of DAF, Kraftwerk, some new wave bands, but yet you sound different. Which bands would you say influence you most?
DB - I'm totally different with you vanya.I never listen to Kraftwerk or DAF.My first contact to a band which i liked was nirvana when i was 14,the loud guitar and the screamvoice of the singer were faszinating me. After this i searched for music like them. I came to Punkrock (like minutemen,ramones,angry samoans,black flag) or weird rock like (sonic youth,free kitten, melt banana,erase errata) and of course i like electropop/punk. Mostly adult,gravy train,sylvesterboy.....ther so many bands i like.
LW - It's also not my everyday music...my first music was punkrock and i still like Stooges, Buzzcocks, Suicide....... but there is a lot of other music i like too. jazz, blues, sixites, funk or scream-noise-acid, and of cours electric sounds

NB - Tell me what's going on in Germany and Dresden. Are there more similar bands, labels who release them?
DB - I never see a band like ours, cause the most bands take a cd/md player and press the play button and sing/play over the playback.We make everything live. But there a lot of german bands which make great minimal- elektro music(sylvesterboy,jeans team)...But the 'underground' bands i saw were not really my taste,besides BOB LOG III..I love this dude ...great trashmusic.but he is from usa.
LW - I come from Dresden it was always a Rock'N`Roll town there are a few clubs with the same programm everytime...surf, garage, punk and hardcore DD-Hometown was called in comunist time "valley of the unsuspecting" and thats totally true, till today! It takes a long time in dresden till new things come together and possibel

NB - Can we expect any Mash Gordon releases, or do all labels have such bad taste that they don't want to release your stuff?
DB - I don't know.I hope. We dont try so much to do a release. We're very lazy in such things. Maybe sometimes It will happens.
LW - ooouh yeahh a own record in our hands it will be so much fucking cool!!!---- dear readers spend your poketmoney to mash gordon our grandmothers are poor and we lost our Fast-food job

NB - Tell me something about yourself. What you do in your life, how you spend your time ... ?
DB - I go studiying(its the best way to keep away from hard work..but i never have enough money). I spend my time with sleeping,smoking,making music,go spraying(GRAFFITI RULES!!) drinking,eating,walking with disko,loving my girlfriend and I try to have a nice day everyday!But sometimes its very difficult,you know.
LW - I'm back on school again drawing colored pictures and drink coffe on the schoolyard.............but usually I' make music or trash videos (splatter trash aahhhhh!!!) or survival trips in our citypark

NB - Tell me about "Bunnynonnen".
DB - The "Bunnynonnen"are our friends jag and peg also known as the cosmic sisters. They hepled us in our videoclip"DeeDee come back!!" They are amazing.
LW - the best sistas in town!!!

NB - Do you play lot of gigs and what kind of audience comes to see you?
DB - We play ca. 4 gigs in the month,sometimes more or less.To our show come young girls with pony which scream our name and get heartattacks. And boys with rastas or baseballcaps.
LW - Or Afro or Leatherjackets..... young "BRAVO-Girls" always whisper :"ohhh my god the maschiessss" when we jump around and destroy plastik- fake guitars

NB - 3 things you hate most?
DB - Standing up at 6am,Being catched by billetcontrolls in the train/subway, in german we call it**SCHWARZFAHREN** and Reggea or Ragga Music...I cant stand it.
LW - lu's loo is outside of his flat actually without light and he hates to use it in totally darkness it's so horrobile I always thing that jason, freddy or a atom mutant rat is waiting behind the door!

NB - 12. Anything you want to say to No Brains Readers?
DB - Dont eat Brussel sprouts It taste awful. The badest food god made!!
LW - drink butter milk it's good for developing of new braincells!!!! rock it girls and boys.............................
