THE BABOONS - BOOGIE CURSE CD, Drunkabilly Records 2008
Baboons are new Belgian rockabilly pride and "Boogie Curse" is their 1st full length. 12 rockabilly tracks with some blues, country rock and swing spices. Great production, a bit in early 80s rockabilly style. Well promising band. A band I would really like to see live! All teddy boys will lick their fingers for sure when they hear this CD.

JEFFREY JAMES AND THE IDIOTS - HOTSY-TOTSY CD, Trashcan Records
When you hear 100s or 1000s of trash, garage, rockabilly records and CDs, you don't easily get that kick like when you hear The Cramps, The Stooges, The Sonics, ... for the 1st time. Jeffrey James And The Idiots just did it to me. 4 track EP, but definitely one of the best EPs I ever heard. This is their debut release. Guys played in bands: Larry And The Lefthanded, 20 Minuters and Phantom 409. Mix of garage, psychobilly and blues. Very very primitive sound. Could be compared with The Cramps, or even better with obscure 60s trash band Groupies - "Primitive". Where The Cramps go rockabilly, Jeffrey James And The Idiots turn to blues. Anyway, these 4 songs are over before you know it. This is definitely a must have for all No Brains readers!!!

NIGEL LEWIS AND THE ZORCHMEN - LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, ATTENTION PLEASE ... CD, Drunkabilly Records 2008
Nigel Lewis was founding member of The Meteors, but don't expect pure psychobilly here. CD is perfect mix of country, garage punk and rockabilly/psychobilly. Maybe recorded and produced a bit too clean, but after few beers you won't mind that at all. Real high tension rock'n'roll album.

PEAWEES - WALKING THE WALK CD, Wynona Records 2007
It took almost 6 years between "Dead End City" (Stardumb Records 2001) and "Walking The Walk" (Wynona Records 2007). You would think that this is a reunion album, but the band was so busy with touring and personal changes, they didn't manage to release full length album all these years. Anyway, I'm really glad The Peawees are back with this fantastic album, and they rock better than ever. Great powerpop album with punk'n'roll touch in Devil Dogs style. I just love Herve's vocal and the songs really kick ass. The album is now available as LP on It's Alive Records (USA) and Radiation Records (Italy), after the band broke up with Wynona Records.

PRETTY WHORES OF MANHATTAN DEMO CD 2007
Wow, Pretty Whores Of Manhattan are actually from Sweden and they say they play teen hardcore. All these words together sound like pornography. But here we have a very young furious band!!! Music is fast, punky, but not super fast so "hardcore" is maybe a bit confusing. It's great teenage punk loaded with energy and I expect Pretty Whores Of Manhattan to get a release on proper label soon.

REVEREND BEAT-MAN - SURREAL FOLK BLUES GOSPEL TRASH VOL 2 CD, Voodoo Rhythm 2007
Christmas came early to me, but I was a bit late. I was moving to new address and this was supposed to be reviewed before Christmas, but I think it's never too late, specially when you get such a great album as "Surreal Folk Blues Gospel Trash Vol 2". I'm big Monsters fan, but I wasn't a big fan of Beat-Man solo stuff. Now I think I will change my mind. His early records had great moments, but they never reached The Monsters level. I guess Beat-Man was looking for his own thing, but most of songs could have been played by The Monsters. This is different. I missed Vol 1. Vol 2 is really weird underground masterpiece with strong rock'n'roll, rhythm and blues, folk blues roots. Creepy with dark sphere and in the same time emotional and funny. Songs are pretty different, but fit together perfectly. Good production, not lo-fi as you may expect. I guess Beat-Man should be as big as Tom Waits or The White Stripes, but he is too deep under the ground. I must get Vol 1 soon, 'cos I'm afraid I missed a really great record.

STINKY LOU AND THE GOON MAT WITH LORD BENARDO CD, Voodoo Rhythm
12 primitive portions of fantastic boogie blues. Mega raw, wild, erotic and hypnotic. Distorted guitar, boozed vocal, harp and boogie vibe - what else do you need? Maybe booze and nude go-go girls!

TREMOLO BEER GUT - NOUS SOMMES THE TREMOLO BEER GUT. QUI LE FUCK ETES-VOUS? CD, Crunchy Frog Recordings 2008
Tremolo Beer Gut are definitely the 1st Danish surf band I hear and they put Denmark on surf map. I like them a lot 'cos this is not retro 60s style, but modern surf inspired by twangy guitar sounds of 50s and 60s as well as exotica and cult movies sounds. Result is pretty weird and psychedelic. Definitely original style and the longer you listen to it, the more hypnotized you get. Mostly mid tempo tracks, strange guitar lines and weird arrangements and sounds + effects. There are many guests on the CD and the band self use all kinds of instruments and that gives this album special dimension(s). 21st century surf at its best.

THE YOUNG WEREWOLVES - CHEAT THE DEVIL CD 2008
This is the coolest promo pack I ever received. Starting with the ghoul envelope; map with werewolf marks, 3-d artwork, cool stickers ... You may remember this band, as we already reviewed their great 1st CD and interviewed them. So this is The Young Werewolves 2nd CD and maybe it's even better than the 1st one. I adore their weird style - horror, psychobilly, garage punk. Don't expect some retro band, but really cool modern punky band. Each song is catchy. If you like Misfits, Ramones, Cramps but don't manage to listen to all 3 bands at once - just get this CD and play it. Just a few song titles: Satan's Daughter, Gala Monster Rally, Touched By A Demon, Tatooed Aliens (Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf)... I see The Young Werewolves are distributed through Cargo, so I hope this great band will tour Europe soon and get some more attention. They really deserve it. This is genius stuff!

ATTACK OF THE 88ft CUBAN - SPLIT SUPER 88 / RED ZONE CUBA CD-EP 2008
This fantastic split EP landed on my door mat this morning featuring 2 best Dutch underground bands at the moment. 6 trashy rock'n'roll tunes - 50s, 60s, 70s, blues, surf, hard rock, punk and more. Great fun. I just love these guys! You can hear that they are 100% into music they play, that they like it and enjoy it. Super 88 play Red Zone Cuba cover + super crazy MC5 - Rambling Rose cover with mad vocal. Red Zone Cuba starts with mindblowing cover of Super 88 "Fussball Baby", followed by 2 superfurious and manic tracks. Also compliments for great sleeve. I really can't believe these 2 bands still have no proper release. Shame on all labels, specially Dutch ones - including No Brains Records (with not enough money in the piggy bank).
