FORTUNE AND MALTESE AND THE PHABOLOUS PALLBEARERS
"SONIC SOUNDS FROM SEATTLE" 7"EP
Dionysus 2000
It's one more great Fortune And Maltese 7", recorded in 1998 and released in 2000. It's pity we had to wait 2 years to get it
on vinyl, but for good music it's never too late. "Girl Go Run Away" is keyboard driven folk punk while "You Watch The
Road" is nice Louie Louie rip off, but who cares. It's a great song anyway. "Don't Question Me" opens B side. It's garage
punk instro. Keyboard theme remainds a bit of "96 Tears" intro. I really like the keyboard sound,
harp and guitar solo. Fortune And Maltese really play with lot of energy. Closing song "Jump, Jive And Harmonize" is
very very wild with manic drums and guitar solos.

FREDDY AND THE FOUR-GONE CONCLUSIONS
"(YOU'RE JUST A) WASTE OF MY TIME/GOTTA GIVE IT
TIME 7"
Sound Camera Records
Freddy And The Four-Gone Conclusions is new band of Freddy from Fortune And Maltese... Musically there is no big
change. It's still 60s fuzz guitar/organ punk. Only this time sound is a bit better. "(You're Just A) Waste Of My Time" has
real hit potential. It's fast with great fuzz guitar riff, good organ arrangements and great vocal. Song is very very catchy. "Gotta
Give It Time" is great too, it's only pity that Freddy and the band didn't make EP - I wanna hear more! I hope we won't
have to wait long for next release.

THE GRUESOMES
"CAVE IN" LP
Jaguar Club 2000
This is the first record I ever heard from the Gruesomes. I heard they released lot of good stuff in 80s, but unfortunately I
discovered them 15 years and more later. Anyway "Cave In" album is one of the best garage punk records I ever heard - 14
tunes full of fuzz guitar, screaming vocals, very catchy... anyway music I really dig. This kind of records are difficult to
describe with words. Gruesomes' music reminds me a lot of Gravedigger V, specially vocal. Actually there are 2 kinds of
vocals in their songs. On the record is also written that Bobby Beaton and Garry Alvarez sing. I have feeling that vocal I
like belongs to Bobby. He sings really great, straight from throat. The other vocal is also good, but I just prefer Bobby a bit more.
My favorites on this album are mostly screamy songs with loads of fuzz like: "You're Not The Boss Of Me" (also has
great organ and harmonica solo), "Come And See Me (I'm Your Man)" (very manic), "Wish You Were Her" (I just go crazy
when I hear this guy sing), "Hyp-no-tyzed" (pretty psych and song with most beautiful melody on this record) and "One
Good Reason". Of course the other songs are great too. I also have to say that production is perfect, the sound is soooo good. This
is the perfect garage punk record and definitely a record you MUST have in your record collection. Well, I MUST HAVE THE OTHER GRUESOMES' RECORDS IN MINE!!!!!

MACH KUNG-FU
"TEACH A CHICK TO DANCE" LP
Telstar 2001
I found this Much Kung-Fu LP recently. It's released in 2001, but it's recorded in 1999. It starts with some "nothing
special" introduction, but fun begins with great cover of "Psycho" - definitely the best version I ever heard with strong
Japanese accent. Then we have surf instro full of reverb guitar with title which describes it the best - "Full Reverb".
"Bamboo Twist" is also great and funny, primitive twist to shake your ass. If that's not enough for you, "Teach A Chick
To Dance"- instro will teach you how to shake it. A side ends with funny and very enjoyable Chuck Berry's "Come On"
which is more known as Rolling Stones first hit. B side starts more "Frenzy" followed by "Jungle Bandstand" with really
terrible vocal, but it goes unbelievable good with music and fun is to the maximum. "The Swim" is one more raving twist
and roll trash. "Hot Doggin'" is surf instro, but "Singapore '66" is super sonic fast r'n'r instro tune which will definitely kick
your ass. Strange sounding "Hit Nation" closes this great record. It's pity we had to wait 2 years to hear these recordings. So don't waist your time - waist your money and grab this record!!

MOST UNUSUAL SOUND
"STREET STALKER" 7"EP
Nicotine Records 2001
It's not really easy to describe the sound of Most Unusual Sound. Well, it isn't that unusual, but it's pretty strange. "Street
Stalker" is some kinda mix between garage punk and power pop with here and there some indie/alter rock influences. It's
good song and I like it. Unfortunately I don't really dig "Be Allright Now!" - it's more indie rock with strange (free jazzy)
sax. But for somebody who likes this kind of stuff it would probably be good - it's just my taste. And again we have one
more 7" where the B side is better than A (or maybe it's just my stupid or crazy taste). "Broken Mojo" reminds me a lot of
Velvet Underground ("White Light White Heat"), but it's more garage and 77 punk. Anyway if you want to hear something
little bit different from ordinary garage punk/trash or indie/alter rock stuff - try Most Unusual Sound, you may like it.
