ACTION SPECTACULAR "EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE KO, REALLY" CD, Sugar Shack Records
Action Spectacular are really cool UK kinda indie brit pop band. Their music is bit more alternative with Velvet Underground influence, but also the best elements of brit pop bands. Great songs and they vary a lot, so it's real pleasure to listen Action Spectacular. My faves are: "You're A Good Looking Man But For Me It's A Full Time Job" (dancey brit pop with wah wah guitar + organ - like very early Charlatans or Stone Roses - there are more songs like this one on this CD and I really love this sound), "The Spiral" (more like mid 80s indie pop bands with nice loud guitar), "We All Need More Sleep" (psychy - like Syd Barrett meets Velvet Underground), "This Is Elvis" ... Only the cover is not really saying much about the music, so for this CD I would say: "Don't judge the CD by looking at the cover".

LOS BANDITOS "TANNENBAUM / KOMM HER - GEH WEG / SECURITY / SONG FOR FREEDOM" 7"EP, Los Banditos Records 2001 + "EKSTASE" CD, Kamikaze Records 2003

Well this EP is not really new, but it's so great that I must review it. It took a while to get it, but here it is - finally! As all other Los Banditos records, this one is also full of surprises and in some way different than the other Banditos stuff. Yes, "Tannenbaum" is the famous christmas tree song. This version is really special. Yet, the weirdest song on this EP, and one of the weirdest Los Banditos tracks is "Komm Her - Geh Weg". Really cool surf jungle exotica - drum'n'bass beats sound great with surf guitar and exotica. "Security" is 70s groovy fuzz killer. "Song For Freedom" - stupid hippy nonsense - closes this EP. I guess this is Los Banditos try to win Eurovision Song Festival. Oh, yeah - of course this song is vocal and there is also Jethro Tull blok flute solo.
Los Banditos gave us the pleasure to have one more masterpiece album in our hands. This is their 4th and maybe the best album. Fantastic songs produced and arranged with super high quality!!! Los Banditos are the kings of surf beat exotica. They managed to find the perfect mix of 60s, 70s + other weird influences to sound modern today. Very groovy with 60s organ and analogue synth, funkoid rhythms, mind-blowing guitar sound, weird effects and fantastic melodies. "Nautilus" is weird undersea surf beat, "Ekstase" and "Derrick" have strong 70s touch - "Derick" is the theme from famous German detective serie. "Felbeszakadt Koncert" is vocal - cover of Hungarian prog psych band Omega, sung in Hungarian (?!). Los Banditos version sounds super cool. "Abscheid In Bistrija" has cool gipsy melody. "Magic Touch" is rockabilly, well, on Los Banditos way. "Heisse Reifen" is cool surf beat exotica. "Tanzfest In Rudolstadt" is gipsy ska with cool ethno horn section. ... I don't know where these guys find their inspirations for such great songs, but I really can't wait to see them live again. Till then I have one more great album to play over and over and over...

THE BITCH BOYS "QUIET BELLS OF EL MONTE" PROMO CD + "BEHIND THE HOUND DOG WALLS" CD, Ikebana Records 2003

Christmas is coming and terror of fucking christmas songs too. Bitch Boys actually sent this one as a gift last year, but it got lost in post. So I review it a year later. Anyway, it's the best time for this CD. "Jingle Bells" is one of the most hated songs for me, but when Bitch Boys play it so nicely - I can always listen to it. Other 2 songs are much nicer for my ears, specially "Memories Of El Monte" (Zappa cover). Cool late 50s/very early 60s sounding r'n'r. I really love such chords and guitar sound. I already reviewed "Behind The Hound Dog Walls" as promo demo copy - check out this review. CD is officially out on Ikebana Records. Fantastic album with 18+ tracks - all killers. I heard Bitch Boys have new CD out - can't wait to hear it!!!!

BRAINBOMBS "THE GRINDER / MOMMY SAID" 7", Ken Rock 2004
Ken Rock is always full of surprises. I really don't know how to describe Brainbombs. Shortly it's trash punk with free jazz influence. They have sax and sound a bit like Stooges and German kraut rock bands or Velvet Underground on White Light White Heat. You have to give them few spins, but it's pretty cool. I only can't figure out what is side A and what side B.

THEE BUTCHERS' ORCHESTRA "WHAT ABOUT NOW?" CD, Rastrillo Records 2003
Thee Butchers' Orchestra are new attraction from hot South American garage punk scene. These guys are from Brasil and they are strongly inspired by late 60s early 70s bands like Stooges, New York Dolls, MC5 ... Still their sound is far from retro. Really good songs - very important. They know very well which magic spices are necessary to make great album, so you can listen to it again and again. Pretty compact record without ups and downs - simply all songs are real killers. Some of them are more punky, some are more r'n'b - also with harmonica. My favorites are Stooges like "Bunch Of Losers" and "My Dirty Fingers" + "Smart Went Crazy" (with sax) - very loud high energy punk. Anyway Thee Butchers' Orchestra are on tour in Europe. They will play in Holland and I'll make sure to check them out. I already heard the fame that live they sound even better than on CD. Recommended to see and listen.
