SPLIT - IRON BOSS VS. ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN 7"EP, Bootleg Booze Records 2004 |
If you answer this question you can win a prize: how many records did Electric Frankenstein release? Well, unfortunately quantity doesn't also mean quality. So in my opinion Electric Frankenstein are OK, but not something I really like. 2 track on this EP are also OK - hardrockin' punk just like Ironboss on the B side.

| SPLIT - ROCK-A-HULAS / THE SUPERSONICOS CD, Rastrillo Records |
Great split CD from Rastrillo Records, one of my favorite South American garage labels. Rock-A-Hulas are from Spain. Cool wild and primitive early rock'n'roll garage, somewhere between Cramps and Monsters. They have 9 tracks on this CD. Mostly originals, but also few covers like fast, almost Ramones version of Roky Erickson's "I Walked With A Zombie", ... Last 3 Rock-A-Hulas' songs are from their live set. You won't believe me, but it sounds even better than the studio stuff, more raw, more rockin', with fantastic and primitive sound. This part of their CD reminds me of Neanderthals. I hope they will put this whole gig on CD - it just sounds great. Great band, hope to hear more from them. Supersonicos are not unknown to No Brains Readers (check the review of "South American Teenage Garage Punk" EP). Their 7 songs on this CD are super cool too. Great instrumental surf with weird effects, crazy melodies like "Beta Beat" (with some old fashioned rhythm box) or "Simpsons Theme". Great instro surf band with nice warm sound.

| THE SUPERSONICOS "TELEKINESIS" CD, Koala Records 2003
The Supersonicos are one of the most modern sounding surf bands I ever heard. They melted 90s electro house sounds into their weird surf instros. They did it super cool and the stuff like "Dr. Strangesurf", "Rampal, O Paranormal" or "Doblacucharas" sound futuristic. 19 songs and all 19 are great. One of the greatest Latin American albums, and very original with weird and cool sound. Keep them in mind!

| V.A. "SHAKIN' IN MY BOOTS: A TEXAS ROCK'N ROLL COMPILATION" CD, Licorice Tree Records 2004 |
2nd release of new Texas garage punk label. This time a compilation with Texas bands. Lot of cool (to me) unknown garage punk bands. Ugly Beats really kick ass, cool primitive fuzz + organ Back From The Grave garage punk - their cover of "I'll Come Again" (The Legends) is super - I hope to hear more from them; Hotrails - trash garage punk trio with loud fuzz, also fantastic; The Dragstrip Bros cool trash instrumental surf with primitive 50s r'n'r influence; The Crack Pipes neo 60s garage psych with organ; The Sunday Drunks mind blowing 77 style glam punk'n'roll - wooooow - I love "Hard Drinkin Woman" (check out their album on Dead Beat Records - fantastic!!!); Mclemore Avenue super super cool and groovy Hammond spacey surf lounge music; White Heat fast straight punk, but 1st class - love this song; The Ka-Nives I really miss Jewws so much and I'm glad The Ka-Nives are here - "Lets' Dance" sounds just perfect. There are more good tracks on this comp, but go buy the CD and you'll hear them. Licorice Tree Records is definitely one of the greatest labels at the moment.

| V.A. "WILD SAZANAMI BEAT!" CD, Sazanami Label
Great compilation CD on Sazanami Label with 26 tracks, mostly by Japanese bands, but also Germany and Switzerland. All Girl band 50s Highteens opens this album with wonderful, trashy and super primitive fuzz version of "Locomotion"; Chocomates are great all girl 60s beat power pop surf - Japanese beach girls who listened to Ramones a lot; Tiki Tiki Bamboooos - cool instrumental surf beat from Germany; Captains neo 60s beat - their song sounds like cover of one of GS bands; The Youngman Psycho Blues play the wildest and fastest garage punk version of "My Generation" with totally insane vocals + "Heavy Drunk Bad Boy" is in the same style; Theos Fried Chickenstore - surf rockabilly from Switzerland, OK but not that great; Sellcancers one more cool instrumental surf band - melodic and a bit exotic; Delicioussweetos all girl 60s go go beat exotica - super cool; Astro Babys all girl punk'n'roll beat - mind blowing pity there is just one song on this CD; The Kilaueas" one more instro surf band from Germany - remind me of Robert And Roboters and some older Los Banditos - great band, definitely want to hear more of them; The Phyclones really nice garagy fuzz GS; The Rolling Chop are OK, but Whys are great, one more Japanese all girl band - instro garage punk; Los Tailors pure neo 60s garage punk - probably inspired by Latin American bands + Japanese GS; Charie Bicycle are manic, wild, primitive neo 60s garage punk - cool Japanese cover of Sonics' "Witch"; Goggle-A are here with 2 great songs - well already wrote lot about them - cool girl + guys who sent me this great CD together with their CD and 7" (THANKS!!!!!). It's not very easy to know what's happening in Japan and this CD is very helpful. I'm definitely gonna try and get stuff from all these bands!!!
