| BITCH BOYS "RIDE THE FIRST WAVE" CD, Golly Gee Records 2004

Bitch Boys really made me happy with their new CD. 30 tracks of real surf pleasure and I must admit even better than their last album. This time Bitch Boys cover 'almost forgotten' surf songs + some other weird and exotic stuff. Actually (as the CD booklet says) Golly Gee Records invited Bitch Boys to release this CD dedicated to 'first wave' of surf music. And in my opinion they choose the right band to do this. Some bands they covered: The Surfmen, Dave And The Customs, The Phantom Five, The Strangers, The Ghouls, The Aladins, The Vulcanes, Tradewinds, ... CD ends with 4 tracks that are actually not surf covers, but 2 are classical peaces + 1 Bosnian folk + 1 exotic. As always Bitch Boys have perfect surf production. The way they play is technically perfect, but still with lot of emotion - that's what I love about this band. My faves on this CD are "Damascus" (orient surf exotica), "Puszta Beat" (Theo Schumann Combo cover - cool DDR surf beat cover, featuring surf violin), "Vltava" (classical peace by Smetana featuring orchestra - East Euro surf beat at its best) and "Tamburalo Momce Uz Tamburu" (definitely my favorite, great Balkan orient surf).

THE BLACK JETTS "ALL SEXED UP / YOU CANT KILL WHATS ALREADY DEAD" 7", High Voltage Records |
 |
One of my favorite bands at the moment - The Black Jetts, have new record out. I really love these guys and their destructive and real r'n'r in the best Stooges, New York Dolls, MC5 vain loaded with raw power. When I listen to "All Sexed Up" and "You Can't Kill What's Already Dead", it really gets under my skin. I don't want to repeat my review for their great "Bleed Me" album, but I must say that The Black Jetts have modern sound with strong influence of great rockin' stuff from the past.

DAIKAIJU "DAIKAIJU" CD, Reptile Records 2004 |
 |
Daikaiju are Japanese hi-tek Manga surf - known to No Brains Readers from "Heavy Surf" compilation. Technically perfect with weird and mystic far east mood. Very cool songs, perfectly arranged with crystal clear surf guitar sound. But Daikaiju are definitely totally different from any surf band I heard. They mixed lot of different styles, from Japanese traditional melodies to sci fi and modern comics (manga) image and sounds. 10 instrumental tracks. All 10 super super great. Just check out: "The Trouble With Those Mothra Girls", "Sharkakhan", "Showdown In Shinjuku", "The Daikaiju Who Loved Me" (my fave), "Farewell To Monster Island" (surf with reggae influence). Very original - 21st century surf.

| THE DEADBEATS "COME CLEAN" 7"EP, Bootleg Booze Records |
 |
It seems that we have kinda new garage punk sound in Sweden. Deadbeats sound quite similar to Sons Of Cyrus. High Energy garage glam punk'n'roll, but without hard and heavy influences. Well, that's actually one of my favorite styles, so I really love these guys. Nice melodic songs with good 70s glam punk guitar riffs and pumping high energy rhythm. Very well produced and simply great!! 3 Deadbeats songs: "Come Clean", "Putting Out My Fire", "Keep Me Waiting" + Cheap Trick cover: "He's A Whore".

DEAD END
Director: Jean-Baptiste Andrea, Fabrice Canepa
Cast: Ray Wise, Alexandra Holden, Lin Shaye, Amber Smith |

A family is on the way to Christmas dinner. Father decides to take a shortcut through the woods. He falls a sleep behind the wheel and almost hits another car. The road doesn't seem to go anywhere, they keep driving in circles and strange things happen each time they make a stop. Parents start arguing, nobody seems to be nice and polite anymore. Father uses the f word way too often, mother goes totally insane, etc. Is this what this family would really act like, or is something really strange going on? Creepy, weird and intense and in one hand kinda realistic because of great acting and good characters. See it, you will be surprised with this unusual story.
