HOLLY GOLIGHTLY "SLOWLY BUT SURELY" CD, Damaged Goods Records 2004 |
 |
This is 7th album of Holly Golightly. Nice moody and folky album. Songs vary a lot, from groovy psych with sitar ("The Luckiest Girl") to country rock ("Keeping On"). Well I prefer the groovy ones, so my faves are: "The Luckiest Girl", "In Your Head" (with nice organ and "Pooshin Too hard" rip off solo) and "Slowly But Surely". Songs are mid tempo to slow. One more cool album for late night hours from Damaged Goods.

THE LOCALS
Director: Greg Page
Cast: John Barker, Dwayne Cameron, Kate Elliot, Aidee Walker, Paul Glover, Peter McCauley |

Two best friends Paul and Grant drive to seaside to surf. They take a shortcut over a small bridge through farmers fields. They meet Lisa and Kelly who were going to "80s" party. That's where the weird shit starts happening. 2 average teenagers come in most weird situation and they don't immediately realize what's happening. They like the girls, but bunch of farmers and 2 drunk death metal guys keep coming in their way. Crazy New Zealand movie, weird story, cool characters and good sense for humor... Definitely worth seeing.

| LOTHAR "QUALITY TIME" MINI CD, Lorna Records 2004 |
 |
After 1 year break, here is the newest Lothar release. I'm glad weirdos from Finland are back and they are better than ever. Their sound is more raw and garage, but still on the weird Lothar way. 1st song "Karzan - The Real King Of The Jungle" is a real killer and I guess they were inspired with 70s Italian erotic (porn) trash comic. The other tracks are also great - "The Deal" is fast and wild with weird Lothar organ sound, fuzz guitar and cool schizophrenic vocal; "Boulevard Of Broken Heart 'N' Vinyl" (cool title) - mystic and psychedelic and primitive with cool organ solo; "Plane Crash" and "My Kind Of Girl (Smells Like Gasoline) are 2 fast fuzz garage songs - weird and schizoid and great of course. CD was released on their own label Lorna Records (like their other 2 albums). So if you want to hear something really weird and innovated and at the same time great, contact these guys.

| MARKY RAMONE AND THE SPEED KINGS "GOOD COP BAD COP / SIDEWALKIN" 7", Bootleg Booze Records |
 |
I'm glad that Marky Ramone And The Speed Kings don't sound and don't try to sound like Ramones. They play kinda garage 77 style punk. Both songs are loaded with cool guitar riffs and they are catchy as hell. Great production, cool vocal. "Good Cop Bad Cop" is a real killer, B side "Sidewalkin" is also cool. If you like Dwarves but then a bit more punky - try this.

| THE MIGHTY STARS "925 / TONIGHT" CD SINGLE, 2004
|
 |
I'm really a big fan of The Mighty Stars. These guys are getting better and better and I really can't believe they don't have a proper release yet. Hey labels, maybe you should wash your ears a little better. It's unbelievable, 'cos lot of power pop has been released, but none of them are as good as The Mighty Stars - and I really mean it. Honestly, I didn't hear such great music since 1st Undertones album. Maybe The Mighty Stars don't sound exactly the same, but there is something about them that remind me of Undertones - raw energy, catchy songs, teenage lyrics, charming arrangements and melody lines... They also sound quite modern and they are not retro at all. Both songs are real killers - finally production is really great almost like their live sound. I listen to this CD on and on - pity just 2 songs. Guys, I hope you will record more and maybe release a full length this year. FANTASTIC!!!!!!!
