THE MUTANTS
"LE MUTANT/INDIANS" 7"
Legal Records
The Mutants are instro band from Finland. Maybe somebody will classify them under surf, but for me it's more early 60s
instrumental r'n'r influenced by Mexican music. "Le Mutant" is imaginary spagheti western soundtrack with great guitar and
beautiful Mexican trumpet. B side ("Indian") is also great spaghetti western theme with really great guitar. It's definitely a 7"
which will sound pretty different than the most of your record collection - so go and get it!!

THE MUTANTS
"Funky Fidel Pt 1 and Pt 2" 7"
Sorlem Baboons
Well, I really don't know which side is part 1 and which side is part 2, but it sounds great and who cares. "Funky Fidel" is
manic instro funk. Rhythm is really crazy and hypnotic with acid bass solo and chaotic and manic trumpets and other
noises. On the other side this song goes on with more keyboard and wah wah guitar.

PING PONG BITCHES - MINI LP
Poptones Records
This record is pretty unusual for No Brains reviews 'cos musically this is more techno than r'n'r, but "spiritually" it's pure
trash punk. This record is so fucking great and you have to be completely open minded to understand this all girl trash
disco sado punk. "Beat You Up" opens this mini LP and it's 21st century trash punk rip off of famous Donna Summer "I
Feel Love", very pervert and hypnotic. "Dynamite" is more break beats glam punk, pretty trashy and pretty catchy with
nice fuzz guitar or synth (?!). First side is so great that it makes you move your lazy ass. On side B we have "Rock Action"
featuring Steve Jones on guitar. It's great technoid 77 glam punk with lot of analogue synth space sounds and noises. Steve
Jones did good job and this is one of my favorites on this record. "I Love You Necrophiliac" is aggressive digital punk with
some mid 80s industrial elements - noises. "Chinese Song" closes this great mini LP. It's discoid punk tune with funny
Chinese melody. It sounds pretty kitsch, but i like it. If you want some nasty fresh music in your collection - try to get this
one.

THE SPOONS
"HERE ARE THE SPOONS" + "LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL EP (bonus)" CD
Anubis Records 1999
Finally a great album by The Spoons again. After "Supervoxin'" where they sounded pretty confused, they've risen from
the grave on "Here Are The Spoons". It's simply one of their greatest records ever and it was such a nice surprise to me.
The Spoons are here more inspired by good old rhythm'n'blues and late 50s/early60s trash r'n'r. Maybe this small style change helped them to
find themselves again. For people who don't know other Spoons records - it was more in the 66/67 garage punk vain with
slight psych influences. "Motorvation" is great r'n'b and it sounds like Flaming Groovies in their best days (late 60s). Guitar
solo is specially great and reminds me a bit of Wilco Johnson solos circa "Down By The Jetty". "Bell Above Us" is garage
punk in Sonics way with great Suzy's vocal. "Gotta Get My Feet" is again rockin' r'n'b with great vocal and harp solo.
Cover of "Raining In My Heart" is beautiful, especially Suzy's vocal. The whole sphere in this song is cought in great way.
If you can't imagine how it would sound when Link Wray, Keith Richards, Booker T and John Mayall on harmonica jam
together - well just listen to great instrumental "Startin' Up". "Dirty Robber" cover is also great and Suzy sings better than
all Thee Headcoatees together (oops!). Great vintage production and smokey sound of band playing live in some small club,
give nice dimension to this album and make it really enjoyable. "Out Of The Night" is one of the songs which sound like
musicians relaxing and changing on solos - guitar, organ, harmonica. "Cellophane Wine" sounds pretty psychotic - nice
hypnotic rhythm, spacey organ and great vocal. If you close your eyes and listen to "It's Happening Back Again" you can
travel through time back to 1966 into some venue and listen to some psychotic pre Velvet Underground punk band. By the
way this is one of my favorite songs on this album. "You'll Never Do It Baby" is one more great cover and Suzy sings great
again. "Shakin With Linda" closes this great album. It's really great souly r'n'b like Supremes backed with garage punk band.
Thank god this is not all. This CD has bonus of 5 song EP called "Let The Good Times Roll". All 5 instros and all 5 Link
Wray covers. Here the Spoons sound almost like completly different band nice and primitive with also great vintage production.

THE REDD FOXX BBQ
"LAST CALL/LEAVE MY ROOM" 7"
Butterfly Records
The Redd Foxx BBQ are definitely one of the strangest bands I ever got to review for No Brains Zine. "Last Call" is down
tempo psych jazzy and groovy easy listening song. It's not bad at all and I specially like part with analogue synth - sounds
pretty spacey. For me vocal is maybe the weakest part here. I think that Tom Waits kinda voice would fit much better in
this after midnight bar tune. I don't know what's with me and 7"s I get last time, but I always seem to prefer the B sides.
Well, Tom Waits didn't sing on "Leave My Room", but this vocal fits here perfectly. It's again lazy and groovy psych pop
with great space synth and acid jazzy guitar. Production on both sides is perfect and you can really enjoy each sound.
"Leave My Room" is definitely mind blowing and so trippy that you don't need LSD to hallucinate. I hope to hear more
from The Redd Foxx BBQ (strange name btw) and I hope I'll trip even more.
