THE CRAZY PAGES "THE CITY FRIES TIME" CD, Dog And Pony Records 2004 |
The Crazy Pages are fuzz garage punk with strong 60s influence, specially US garage psych bands like 13th Floor Elevators etc. These are their recordings from 1989-1996. It's good garage with all its elements, but I still miss something. Vocal doesn't seem to fit here. Maybe singer would be perfect for hard rock, metal or street punk band.

DAMN SEAGULLS "ONE NIGHT AT SIRDIE'S" CD, Full Steam Records 2005 |
Some bands, and specially Finish ones, make such a strange mix of music styles, you just don't know where to place them. Damn Seagulls are one of them. "One Night At Sirdie's" is pretty cool mix between high energy garage punk, of course with touch of soul, bit of r'n'b and alternative rock, 80s rock (Waterboys) with raw vocal that reminds me of young Rod Stewart (Jeff Back Group, Faces) and Brian Adams. Strange details, cool arrangements with lot of Hammond organ, groovy horn section, great songs make Damn Seagulls sound really special. When you listen to a band that plays music you're not really much into and you really enjoy their CD, it means they are special - and Damn Seagulls really are. My faves are: "Heart On The Sleeve", "Stony Ground", Jesus Stole My Baby". This last song has such great lyrics that I must write them down.
"People say that I'm a goddamn punk and I look like a fucking mess // Mind your own business and let me be // I just hate all kinda stress
When I go out please do come around // And settle me down //And save me from myself
'Cause I'm going down, I'm goin' to drown // If you don't help me get outta this place
But who's gonna save me // When you're with Jesus all the time // So who's gonna save me // Yeah I know you got him on your side
I've been workin' all week in the local post and now I'm ready for a drink or twelve // I know that I'm jealous just a little bit // Just wanna have you all by myself
It's Jesus or me"

| DEEP INSIGHT "RED LIGHTS, WHITE LINES" CD, Fullsteamrecords 2004
Deep Insight play some kind of alternative rock. As I'm not really into this stuff and I'm not very familiar with this genre and its sub genres, I'm afraid I can not say much about this. They remind me a bit of grunge and also some metal or gothic stuff (like Him). I can't say I like it or not, it's just not my stuff.

| DIRTMINERS "MEAT AND ELECTRICITY" CD, 2004
Dirtminers play americana with honky tonk, r'n'b, pub rock spices. All in all pretty cool to get drunk and have a nice evening, but nothing special or new. Nicely produced with good caught sphere. Typical American sound, good musicians, but it just doesn't get through to me.

| BUDDY DUGHI "PLAYS HOT ROD SURF" CD, Golly Gee Records 2005
Great old fashioned surf with nice choice of songs. Really great stuff for hot days and fast rides. Buddy has crystal clear twangy guitar sound with here and there a bit of reverb. All is done with good taste and feeling for perfect sound. Buddy is backed by great musicians: Suzy Dughi - bass and Tom Thomas - drums. Production and music is almost perfect, spiced with good dosis of exotica, so this album is great to listen to any time.
