SPEEDY PEONES "BOUDOIR - INFERNO" CD, 2005

Italian trash punk with new wave influences - of course this is very hype today. But I must say Speedy Peones do it on some strange way. Singer is some kind of punk version of David Lee Roth from Van Halen (their early stuff). Strange screams that go really good with the music. Style is also strange and rhythm is not really usual for trash punk new wave. Production is really good, guitars are bit more waveish and less punk, good songs - pretty different. They don't really sound like A-Frames, but after them Speedy Peones are the best band in this style. There are songs that are in Italian and that's big plus.

Szymanski - keyboard, Shettler - drums, Morris - guitar and vocals. Strange band, just like the sleeve - girls with parakeet heads. New wave psychedelic garage punk, but on way you never heard before. Lot of keyboard and synths, but also fuzz guitar. Sometimes too complex and alternative for my taste, but definitely original.

The Standing 8 Counts are from Brisbane, Australia and this is collection of stuff they recorded while the band was active - probably that's why this title. They are somewhere between Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Oblivians, with Australian charm and rawness - influences of Birthday Party and similar early 80s Australian bands. Great blues riffs, trashy but still good produced with raw vocal. 22 quite noisy, trashy and wasted heavy blues songs - real thing to get depressed on nice sunny day.

Sweatmaster are incredible high energy garage punk from Finland with pretty strong 70s influence. "Maggots" is song from their new "Tom Tom Bullet" album, produced by Jurgen Hendlemeier (Flaming Sideburns, Baby Woodrose ...). So you know what you can expect - as the band's name says, rock'n'roll with rivers of sweat. 2nd song, "Full" is only available on this CD.

Swing Ding Amigos from Tucson, Arizona play hardcore garage punk. Short songs - no longer than 1 minute. I don't mind short songs, but this is a bit too short and too fast. They have strange sense for humor.
