TURPENTINE BROTHERS "WE DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR GOOD TIMES" CD, Alive Records 2005
Turpentine Brothers are weird Boston garage rock - by weird I mean they definitely have their own style. Line up is also weird: guitar, organ and drums - no bass. Dark and mystical songs, a bit psychedelic, but very raw and aggressive. Sometimes they remind me of early Nick Cave, probably because of organ and deeper vocal. Really unusual and good band. Only they should change name into Turpentine Brothers and Sister - there is a girl on drums - just kidding. My faves are: "Somethin's Not Right", "Why Can't I Do", "Wastin' Time", "Love's Gone Bad".

TVH - 3 "STEAL YOUR SHADOW" DEMO CD
This is one track demo. Neo 1980 new wave in style of Joy Division, early Cabaret Voltaire and similar stuff. Rhythm box, dark monotone vocal and post punk guitar. TVH - 3 really got this early 80s sound. But one song that is pretty good is not really enough to write about this COOL band, so guys record some more stuff.

SPLIT - 22 PISTEPIRKKO / THE OTHERS CD-EP, Bad Afro 2006

22 Pistepirkko are probably the most known Finish alternative indie band. On this CD, you can find tracks from their debut EP from 1986 - now a collectors item. So Bad Afro did great job releasing this EP on CD for everybody who never had chance to hear it, including me. Great 80s garage - neo 60s sound, raw and primitive garage guitar, cheezy organ - not really type of stuff they played later, but it's great. The Others are actually 22 Pistepirkko, some kind if their garage punk alter ego. 3 instrumentals, covers of Link Wray, played on vintage equipment with great organ. Mindblowing CD for all 80s garage freaks.

SPLIT - NERVOUS HABITS / CHEAP TRILLS, 7" Terminal Records 2006

2 new bands from US. Nervous Habits on side A - fast, trash punk with 77 punk kick + new wave spice, played much faster and more trashy, destorted, wild and straight to the point. Cheap Thrills on B side are even better - more or less the same kind of music, only better produced, less trashy and great songs. They spiced everything a bit more with new wave. I hope to hear more from both bands!!
V.A. "FUZZTONES ILLEGITIMATE SPAWN - THE FUZZTONES TRIBUTE ALBUM" PROMO 2CDr
42 bands from all over the world play Fuzztones songs. Lot of good stuff here like: Fuzz Faces (Brasil); Mad Juana (USA) - strange psych with girl vocal, weird and great cover of "Idol Chatter"; International Playboys (UK); Special Agents (UK) with garage psych instrumental "The Thing"; Deffectors (Denmark); already known from 80s, Morlocks with "Black Box" (didn't know it's Fuzztones related); Misteriosos (USA) "She's Wicked", great band and great cover; Frantic V (Greece) old fashioned 80s garage sound with fuzz and organ; Vibravoid (Germany) with weird psych effects and sitar; Nikki Sudden (Germany) did awesome wasted and psychedelic version of "Just Once" in Velvet Underground style; Weirdtones (Finland), don't know this band but they are great here, I hope the rest of their stuff sounds like this too; Crookshanks (USA) great fuzz vs organ garage psych; Hates (Argentina) and their version of "Yeah Babe" kick ass; Orange Sunshine - Dutch pride (hahaha), just kidding, but this is really great band - fantastic manic wild and wasted heavy psych (early 70s style) version of "Blackout"; Mangazoides (Peru) end this CD with song dedicated to Fuzztones (not a cover) "Fuzztomano Piedricolas" - Mangazoides rule and this CD ends with 2 for me best songs. As you can see, all these songs are not recorded specially for this compilation - it's stuff from 80s till now that's compiled on this album. Maybe it's a bit too much to put 42 bands on one double album - I think vol.1 and vol.2 would be better, or at least to make a bit better selection.
