DENNIS MOST AND AUDIO LOVE "LIVE AT THE EL CID, DECEMBER 1976" CD, Captain Trip Records 2004
Man, this is really cool live gig at El Cid from 1976 by legendary Denis Most. Complete gig recording with pretty good sound quality. Really great surprise. Music is so called proto punk, as you can guess from the year (1976). Very loud, with acid guitar leads and lot of garage sounds. But I guess, you are already familiar with Denis Most and his music. Some covers - Stooges, Love, early Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, as well as his own songs. I really love this CD and it's a must have for your collection, together with Stooges, MC5 and DMZ. I'm glad this is released on CD and I can play it, and I hope you all will.

THE DOUBLE - DEMO CD
The Double are from Italy and I think it's 2 girls who play different instruments and dj, program, sample, combine stuff and sing. Strange alternative and experimental music, very dark and dreamy with weird vocals. The roots are in early 80s new wave, but it's all done in new way and bit psychedelic (specialy in "Freedom"). Something you really don't hear every day. These 2 Italian girls do it great and very original. Sleeve is not the best, but when you hear it you'll love it. At least if you're openminded and you enjoy the dark side of your dreams.

FLANNELMOUTH "(WHAT A) COMEBACK / BRAVADO" PROMO CD, Grid Records 2004
Flannelmouth are from Finland, Helsinki and this is their double A sided CD single. 2 songs in old fashioned indie pop style. They remind me of UK bands from mid to end 80s, and they sound like The Smiths with jangling guitars in "(What A) Comeback" and more noisy guitars in "Bravado". Nice melodies and songs - awsome!!

FREEBOOTING PROFITEERS "SUPERCOOL SUPERCRUEL" DEMO CD SINGLE, 2005
Another CD by Freebooting Profiteers, this time with 2 songs: "SuperCool SuperCruel" and "Who Killed Nancy". Comparing with their previous CD, this is one step forward. This CD sounds better and modern. It's some kind of punky brit pop with power pop and mod influences - harder and more powerfull. My fave is "Who Killed Nancy".

THE GENDERS "ROCKIN' IN RAMALLAH" CD, AMP Records 2005
How I heard about The Genders is a bit complicated story. Somebody on garagepunk.com forum mailed a link to some Israeli 'garage' label. I was very enthousiastic and went to check it out. On my big dissapointment, all sound files I could hear there had nothing to do with garage, or other stuff I like - lot of hardcorish punk and some indie bands. I mailed back about this and somebody mailed a link to Genders website. And wow!!!! The Genders are really great punk band with garage and 70s influences. Let's say 77 punk with great riffs and great songs, but not really old fashioned. All lyrics are in English and you get booklet with lyrics, what is quite important as their motives are different - from nowadays problems to personal stuff all with a personal view - rebelious lyrics, rock'n'roll short story kinda songs, some songs are simply short stories. Now back to music - trio: Amir Neubach vocals/guitar, Ofer Korichoner vocals/bass and Orr Kahlon drums/vocals. Great production and great sound as well as great songs. It's really hard to pick favorites, but I'll try: "Mute Button", "High Heels", "Swastika On Your T-Shirt" a title you will understand better when you hear the lyrics, but you should buy CD and hear it yourself, "We Awright" and "Come On". The Genders have all my sympathies. You also get short notes by Amir, trying to explain the whole situation in Israel. Don't worry - it's not some boring political text. I guess The Genders get more questiones about the politics in their country than about their music, so they put their own opinion about the whole situation on CD. For me this CD is not political, but unfortunatelly politics is important part of their lifes so you can hear it in their lyrics, but really minimal and on, for me, only correct way - all problems are seen from personal view. I really hope The Genders will play in Ramallah some day and that lot Palestinian girls and guys will come to see them.
