GECKO BROTHERS "DEMOLITION OF THE REHABILITATION" CD, 2005 Drunkabilly
Records 2005 |
 |
Gecko Brothers already appeared on Drunkabilly Records. This CD is maybe
even better. Great CD - dirty, wild and raw speed rock with Motorhead
attitude. Gecko Brothers kick ass better than ever. 8 original tracks about
living on the edge, booze and drugs abuse. 2 covers: "Stuck In Suckcity"
(Tumors) and Speedfreak (Motorhead). There is also a bonus track - some kind
of remix, Gecko Brothers go dance, sounds really cool with their vocal,
I only miss a bit more guitars. I wouldn't mind if next album was in this
style - Gecko Brothers fucking up dance music.

HOSENFEFER "KEEP ON DRIVIN'" CD, Basement Blues Records 2005 |
 |
This is 2nd album of super speed heavy punk rock band from Kosovska
Mitrovica (Kosovo, Serbia - Ex Yugoslavia). 10 new sonic speed songs full of
energy - stuff you didn't hear sinds Motorhead and 1st Nashville Pussy album
or my fave - Motosierra. If you like punk rock with heavy riffs, sweaty,
dirty, raw and wild sound - Hosenfefer is band you must have in your collection.

| MARVEL "UNLEASHED!" CD, Black Juju 2006
|
 |
"Unleashed" is actually mini album with 6 songs, 6 covers of Marvels fave
songs. Stuff like Bon Jovi, Kiss and Parliament. Also some less known stuff
- Nolan Porter, Robyn and Etiquette Mona. Marvel did this on their early 70s
heavy psych way, with heavy guitars and great vocal. My fave is Marvel cover
of Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer" - I can't stand the original, but this
version is great. This could be a bigger hit than Bon Jovi, of course if
they would play it often on TV and radio - almost impossible, but you never
know. Also great cover of Parliament and "Amsterdam" from Etiquette Mona,
for me unknown Swedish band. Swedish lyrics, so I don't know what they sing
about Amsterdam, probably not about beer - hahaha. Maybe about
demonstrations in Amsterdam, 1980 (same year as original of this song), when
Dutch punks threw bricks on police and protested against queen. Anyway,
great CD like everything we got from this band. I hope this is just intro
for their next album.

| ON TRIAL "FOREVER" CD, Bad Afro Records 2006
|
 |
On Trial are for me new discovery on Bad Afro Records. They already have 5-6
albums and bunch of 7"s. ANyway, "Forever" is great album - very late 60s
early 70s, acid psych sounds - not so heavy as other Bad Afro bands, more
psychedelic and trippy. On Trial are on the edge to be stoner rock, but they
are too psychedlic to put them in that genre. 11 really great songs -
Scandinavian quality at its best! Must find their other records.

| PORNOGRAPHIC PRIESTESS "TATTERDEMALIONS" CD
|
|
Pornographic Priestess are really strange and original band and really
great. Musically, in 3 words - very psychedelic new wave. Sounds like
nothing you heard before. They say they recorded this on 4 tracks - well,
you can't really hear that, it's not so lo-fi as their promo sheet says. It
sounds primitive, but it's even better. Cool vocals (2 voice harmony
vocals), lot of strange sounds (some fuzzed bass, I think...), strange
programming and psychedelic effects. Songs are done weird, but not too
experimental and avantgarde - not that you can't listen to it. Pornographic
Priestess managed to make a timeless album - it's really hard to put this in
a specific genre or musical period. It's not 60s, not 70s, not 80s, not 90s and
not from this time - it's a bit of everything. Dark, psychedelic,
schizophrenic, claustophobic, but still pleasant and a bit trippy. I really
hope to hear more from them - this CD really impressed me.
