A FRAMES
"NEUTRON BOMB + 2" 7"EP
Dragnet Records 2000
A Frames is trash punk band influenced by early 80s new wave - imagine
Rip Off Records bands mixed with The Fall, Devo or early Stranglers. "Neutron
Bomb" is great song, maybe little bit short, but you can play it few times
before you turn the other side of 7". On the other side we have "Radiation
Generation" & "Test Tube Baby". "Radiation Generation" is great &
it's my favorite. It's full of analog synth noises, pretty fast & punk.
"Test Tube Baby" is much more new wave & little bit experimental. So
watch out for A Frames 'cos when you hear them you'll ask for more.

LOS BANDITOS
"BEATCLUB + MODUL 47" 2LP
Weser Label 1999
Los Banditos are one of most original surf bands I ever heard. Sometimes
I think that surf is not really good name for their music. "Fremder Planet"
opens "Beatclub" LP. This is strange spacey psychedelic surf. "Beatclub"
sounds like soundtrack for late 60s early 70s action movie. Some songs
sound like they were picked up from east european surf comps. - "Surfbeat
Behind The Iron Curtain". "Als Ich Dich Sah" is cover of famous Russian
song - I think everybody knows it. Los Banditos version is a bit easy listening
with great fuzz guitar solo. "Rock & Rumba" is a bit experimental with
drum machine. "Django" is typical spaghetti western melody followed by
hard core latin surf "El Bandito". There are 18 songs on this lp and each
of them is great and strange. 2nd lp "Modul 47" is even stranger and different
from 1st record. Songs are really fantastic. Here they experiment with
guitar sound even more, using effects like wah wah. There are more keyboards
than on the 1st record. It's very difficult to choose your favorite song(s).
Quality of the songs is on very high level. There are no many instro bands
who can make such a great record. I dare to say that only Treble Spankers,
Vice Barons, Impala & Los Banditos can do that. Los Banditos can even
surprise you with sitar surf songs like "Daumen Im Wind" & "Schlangenfrau"
which close this great record.

LOS BANDITOS
"FUZZBALL + 3" 7"EP
Sheep Records 2000
Here is the new Los Banditos 7" and all I can say is - They Are GRRREEEAAAAATTT!!!!
I really can't call their instro music only surf anymore. It's mix of everything,
but they only sound like Los Banditos. 60s are maybe their biggest inspiration,
but Los Banditos music is absolutely 21st century groove. "Fuzzball" -
great title - is really crazy, but "Die Nieue Vom Club" is even more crazy.
Los Banditos have such catchy melodies & they always sound so fresh.
"Kommisar X" opens B side of this 4 song ep. It's great soundtrack for
your favorite detective series full of action, violence & sex (do you
remember "Crime Story", Mike Torello & Ray Luca?). "Elektronisch Gesteuerte
Laufkrane" sounds like 70s high energy surf funky soul kraut craziness.
so if you can't find this 7" in your local shop - surf to www.sheeprecords.com
or www.losbanditos.org and
order it NOOOOW!!!!!!!

BOBBYTEENS
"NOT SO SWEET" LP
Screaming Apple Records 2000
Bobbyteens "Not So Sweet" LP has great glam sleeve and their music
is also little bit changed: from trash to glam punk. This record is pure
rockin' punk. Almost every song is a killer. It seems that Bobbyteens listened
a lot to 70s New York scene and got inspired to make such record.
Sound and production are also very good and done very well. It's really difficult
to pick the best song from this album, but my favorites are: "Young And
Dumb" (Rubber City Rebels cover), "Late Night T.V." & "Not The One"
which reminds me of greatest songs from Johnny Thunders & Heartbreakers.

THE BOONARAAAS
"U.G.L.Y. GIRL" LP
Thunderwoman 1999
The Boonaraaas are all girl lo fi punk band with strong 60s pop punk
influences. "U.G.L.Y. Girl" LP is full of short catchy songs. I always
feel excited when I get record like this. It's really great when you come
to the last song on first side & you want more. Then you turn the record
and start again. Such records never become boring. My favorites are definitely:
"I Don't Need You Anymore", "Oh, Oh I Love Him So", "RPM" & "I Need
You" (The Beatles cover). Record sleeve is very nice with She-Hulk, big
Boonaraaas poster & ugly girl lipstick. So when you buy this record
try to get their first 7" which is also great.
