ON PAROLE DEMO CD

1st of all, super big sorry to On Parol guys for this tooooo late review. When I saw it under the seat in my car next week, while I was looking for a map - I really felt a shame. I remembered I got this Cd while ago, listened to it in the car and somehow it got lost. I listen to it again and it's really fucking great. Unfortunatelly only 4 songs - 3 band originals + "Emergency" (Girlschool) cover. Swedish guys who play like Stooges, Sonics, Motorhead with a bit of metal. Result is really fantastic - great songs, great riffs, great vocal - killer stuff. I don't know what happened to On Parol, their site isn't working anymore. I hope this is not a great band that's ignored today and will be adored and bootleged 20 years later.

The Others are garage psych face of 22 Pistepirkko, who are very well known indie pop alternative rock band. "Monochromeset" is a collection of 13 songs from late 50s and 60s. Nice collection of great done covers of Link Wray, Kinks, Jody Reynolds, Troggs, Budy Holly, ... Songs are done with personal touch and they sound oldfashioned and modern at the same time. Great vocal, nice Farfissa sound, good production, guitars, all is great. It's really pleasure to listen to this CD.

Panophonic is one mand band - Tommy Lugo. Sound is pretty 80s retro and it reminds me of bands on 4AD label from mid 80s but bit more industrial. Dreamy dark noise wave with trashy production. This kind of production doesn't really fit this kind of music. From all the noise and different sounds, you can hardly hear the vocal. Maybe this is supposed to sound like this, I don't klnow. But for me Panophonic needs better production. Tommy Lugo has talent, songs are really good so I expect next CD to sound better.

One man band or better singer/songwriter - Konrad Wert. Accoustic guitar with here and there violin and screams. Music is folk r'n'b blues, but not really melodic. It's very monotone and a bit boring to me. This kind of one man bands should play on the street for a change and not record records. Or, please go to studio, record your music with drums, bass guitar etc. and not just accoustic guitar. I never liked Bob Dylan, I do like Syd Barret, but he never bored anybody with accoustic guitar only. Maybe some of you won't agree with me, but it's my taste.

"Prey For Rock & Roll" is the story of Jacki and her all-girl punk rock band, Clam Dandy, who are trying to make it. They are ignored by record companies and live hard punk rock lives - drugs and alcohol problems, boyfriends, girlfriends, parents... They try not to give it up. Anyway, "Prey For Rock & Roll" is pretty cool and realistic punk movie, with great soundtrack and apperiance of Texas Terry. Pitty we had to wait 3 years for this movie to be released on dvd here in Holland. Definitelly the best rock movie I've seen after "Velvet Goldmine" and that was years ago.
