THE NEW YORK REL-X "SOLD OUT OF LOVE" CD, Dirty Faces Schallplatten 2005
The New York Rel-X are punk attraction from US. 2 girls + 2 boys with girl vocal. Street punk with strong 77 and early 80s US punk influences. The New York Rel-X do it on their own way. Melodic songs, a bit of Misfits, Nuns, X (LA) influences. All this melted in one style. Great production, loud and dirty but melodic enough, guitars sound great with vocal. Great CD and I hope to hear more from this band.

RED ZONE CUBA "SICK SOUNDS FROM THE SOUTH" DEMO CD 2006
Unfortunately only 5 songs and unfortunately again demo CD, but it makes me happy. Totally bad, lo-fi trash the way I love it. Great riffs, lots of weird movies samples, great vocal, great songs - makes you feel good. Weird creepy horror psych with strange keyboard - "Giant Flies". Killer cover of "Ring Of Fire".

| THE SACRED SAILORS "GOLDEN DAWN" CD, Pitshark And Bam Balam Records 2006
I thought Sacred Sailors were past, 'cos after their 1st 45 (2004 Crusher Records) I didn't hear anything from this band. But actually I had no idea that same year they released a whole album on Lonestar Records. I guess 2005 they were busy with touring, but unfortunately not in Holland - or maybe I missed them. Anyway, I'm glad to hear from this band again. And here they are with their 2nd album on Pitshark Records. It's a bit more rockin' and faster than what I heard on their 45 that was a bit more psychedelic. Influences of MC5 and similar bands from end of 60s/begin 70s are strong. Of course I don't mind this. Specially if band doesn't just copy, but make it sound pretty modern. Songs remind me a bit of Mainliners - maybe not really the songs, but the style, or to be precise Manne's vocal and the way he sings. Yet, these 2 bands don't sound the same. Mainliners are more 60s oriented and Sacred Sailors prefer 70s. Anyway, you get 14 killers. Album starts pretty acid and groovy with wah wah guitar and psychedelic spices, so you know what will follow must be great. My faves are: "All The Way Home", "Ice Cold Water" and "My Solution". Unfortunately CDr didn't play all the way through, so I wasn't able to hear songs 11-14. Probably CD was burned on too high speed and quality is not really the best.

| UNICORN "THE FIRST PUNIC WAR EP" 7"EP, Carthage vs Rome

Alternative rock, pretty old fashioned, very 80s sound. I don't like this at all. Sounds very confusing and if people go on sending this stuff, I'll stop listening to music.

| V.A. "MONTREAL LOCALZ" CD, Arisen Records
"Montreal Localz" CD doesn't have eye catching cover design. It's pity, cos you get really nicely surprised when you play the CD. I had no idea there were so many great bands in Montreal. At least on this CD there are 20 bands I never heard of. I guess there is a good scene there and it's pity these bands aren't more popular. I will name some of the bands. The Brains open this CD with "Train (keeps rolllin' on)" Stray Cats influenced rockabilly/psychobilly. Starbuck et les Impuissants use drum computer (I think) or just really bad drums, anyway they sound primitive and metallic and they remind me of Metal Urbain. Manic Manon and the Guestlist - great girl fronted garage punk. Some 80s punk style hardcorish bands here, like C.C.S.S. or La Gachette. But I prefer stuff like The Delegates, weird glam punk or Gutter Demons, really great psychobilly. Riktus remind me of Berurier Noir, drum computer punk in French. Inepsy are Motorhead reincarnation, but they do it really good.

| V.A. "NOT PSYCHO ENOUGH?" VOL.2 + VOL.3 7"EPs, Dull City Records

While I'm sitting on my lazy ass, Geir from Dull City Records put out 2 new volumes of "Not Psycho Enough", Cosmic Psychos tribute. Lothar (one of the weirdest bands from Finland - check out No Brains Zine archive) open volume 2 on their weird and pretty aggressive way. "Supervixen", with kinda Moog synth sounds is super cool!! I guess covering Cosmic Psychos was piece of cake for Jerry Spider Gang. I'm sure they did it with lot of pleasures. "Can't Come In" just kicks you in your head. Spank My Jones kick ass with screamy, wild and noisy "Crazy Woman". The Dry Retch are really fucking great surprise. Fuzzed, wild, raw and dirty. I really hope to hear more from them!!! Volume 3 are all Australian bands. Hell Crab City, Meatbeaters, Intertater and Gazoonga Attack are really wild, aggressive and primitive on Australian beer drinking way.
