THE LUCKY PUNCH "KICK UP A HULLABALOO" CD, Dead Beat 2004 |
Snotty hard rockin' punk as we usually get from Scandianavia. Only, The Lucky Punch are from Germany, but who cares. More 70s influenced in MC5 vain, than we usually get from Dead Beat. If you like bands like early Hellacopters, Gluecifer, Monster Magnet - you should try The Lucky Punch. Well, they are little less heavy and more rockin' and punk.

| MAINLINERS "DEAD MAN'S HALL / DAUGHTER OF DIMES" 7", Crusher Records 2004 |
You already had a chance to meet The Mainliners in last update of No Brains Zine. This is their first vinyl release. We get 2 brand new songs that were not on their promo CD from last year. Fantastic 2 songs with strong 60s garage freakbeat influence. Only Scandinavian bands can play like this today. Sounds fresh and old fashioned at the same time. Mainliners can stand shoulder to shoulder with Strollers, Indikation ... Their sound is different. Little bit more roots and rhythm and blues than the other two. Mainliners have something that reminds me of The Animals - not really musically, but more like feeling in their warm sound. Both songs are mid tempo with great guitar work and keyboard, and vocal is just super. Unfortunately I missed them live and I still regret it. I hope they will become more famous and come to play in Holland soon. Crusher Records is great new label you should all keep your eye on. Deadman 7" is next one coming.

MANIKINS "DON'T GIMME A CHOICE" 7"EP, P.TRASH 2004 |
Manikins EP on P Trash Records really kick ass. Trash punk with strong 77 style influences + slight touch of old Hives. The energy and rough sound of this EP reminds me of early Rip Off Records 45s. Only, here you get both sides - hahaha. 4 great tracks including cover of "Palasides Park". Fantastic EP!!!

| MUCK AND THE MIRES "BEGINNER'S MUCK" CD, AMP Records 2004
After quite a long pause, Muck And The Mires are back with another album. "Beginner's Muck" is bit more power poppy. Production is also a bit modern, but songs are still short and catchy as hell. Lot of great songs here, but also lot of songs from the album "All Mucked Up" - don't know what is the reason. Muck And The Mires are really great songwriters. I hope next time they will write more new songs. Anyway, another great album.
