V.A.
"MONSTER PARTY 2000" CD
Mu Sick Recordings 2000

"Monster Party 2000" is compilation with mostly surf bands, but also garage punk. After short intro theme, Satan's Pilgrims open this cd with "Franken Stomp" - nice surf tune. Next are Boss Martians . I don't like them much, but "Have You Ever Seen...?" is not bad at all. They sound a bit like Swinging Neckbreakers. The Space Cossacks are maybe the best band on this comp. I never heard about them before, but I'm definitely going to chase their stuff. "Transilvanian Orbit" is great spacey east euro surf. Eddie Angel & The Omega Men are funny instro band. They play keyboard driving groove punk - I like it. Rockin' surf horror "Dracula's Deuce" is pretty weird song by Freddy Fortune & Four-Gone Conclusions. Bleed are fuzz garage in Sonics style. The Madeira play nice surf tune "Theme From 'Young Frankenstein'" - great guitar sound. I'm not very familiar with Hellbenders. I heard a few songs and as far as I can remember they sounded like spaghetti western surf band. "Ghosts From Boot Hill" sounds like surfing Johnny Cash. The 3-D Invisibles are one more beautiful surf band with touch of Cramps. I think this whole cd sounds a bit Crampsy. Next are Hypnomen and their psychedelic garage instro "The Pendulum". The Tiki Tones sound a bit 70s, maybe because of analogue synth & groovy rhythm. Bambi Molesters are classic surf band. If you can imagine mix of Joy Division, Johnny Cash & surf guitar you'll know how Deadbolt sound. Unfortunately Fifty Foot Combo sound pretty boring. Maybe they have better stuff, but I rather skip "Evil Walks In" and go to Los Pelegrinos Negros and their latin surfbeat. And then we have Electric Frankenstein  with their metallic trash punk. They sound a bit lost on this cd. I don't know why, but I don't dig Electric Frankenstein like some friends of mine. Cobrajets are one more punky band. They sound almost like Motorhead - specially the singer - it's not bad at all. I really like it. Los Straitjackets bring us back to surf tunes. They are one of my favorite instro surf bands, but they can do much better. The Woggles date "Dracula's Daughter". It's funny rockin' song. The Chimps "It's The Mummy" is ok, but nothing special. And at the end there is nice outro done by The Madeira.
So that's it. It's great cd - lot of great songs and just here and there some band I don't really dig, but it doesn't mean they are bad. The whole cd is good fun and nice soundtrack for horror parties.

SUPERFLY T.N.T'S/MORTICIA'S LOVERS
"IS ELVIS DEAD? YES" SPLIT 7"EP
Perdurabo Records

For quite long time I didn't see any Superfly T.N.T.'s records and finally here it is. It's split 7"ep with Morticia's Lovers. They are lo fi garage trash punk. There are lot of bands like this, but I don't care - I just love Morticia's Lovers. "Lou Anne" & "Boredom" are great songs. Superfly T.N.T.'s side starts little bit strange. "Budget Love" has pretty good sound - what is not usual for Superfly T.N.T.'s. It's downtempo punk love song with nice guitar sound. "Deader Than Disco" is classic Superfly T.N.T.'s song - trash but melodic punk, very fast & straight to the point. I hope we'll hear more from Superfly T.N.T.'s soon.

TRASH BRATS vs THE SINISTERS
SPLIT 7"EP
Circumstantial records 1997

The Trash Brats are from Detroit, but they sound like typical New York City glam punk band - like New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders & Heartbreakers - but faster & more punk. Great cover of GG Allin's "You Hate Me & I Hate You". The Sinisters from Toronto are old school punk, strongly influenced by metallic Detroit bands, but then again louder, faster & wilder. I saw them live in 1999 when I was in Toronto. They were great and from then I was looking for this 7". I hope they have more releases and that they still exist. It's great band.
