THE ROYAL BEAT CONSPIRACY
"GALA GALORE" CD
Bad Afro Records 2000
When I played The Royal Beat Conspiracy for the 1st time I really
didn't know what to think about this band, but I really like their CD.
I really enjoy it & "Gala Galore" is really great fun. Their music
is pretty strange & something like this you don't hear very often.
It's great mix of different 60s & 70s styles. "She's Pretty Thing"
is really difficult to describe - it's 70s r'n'r with some eastern sounds.
"The Chameleon's Changing Color" is great song. It's early 60s psych with
mexican folk influences - one of my favorites. "Tonight" is more MC5/early
70s Rolling Stones honky tonk rock - also great song. But then they play
surf/rockabilly "Hollywood Fever" - & I have to say it again - it's
a great song. "Satan's Radio" is country pop rock in Royal Beat Conspiracy
style with great lyrics. I can go on like this with all 15 songs. They
are all great and apart & also different from each other, but still
you can hear it's the same band. I can't finish this review not mentioning
songs like beautiful "Satellite Child", souly "The Real Thing", acid "It's
Not Enough" (one of my favorites), terribly sugary, but great pop "The
Sweetest Love", glammy "Spend It All On You" & marvelous "Disco Boy"
- 70s disco with great funky wah guitar, violins & all kitchy disco
tricks & sounds - it's definitely the craziest song on this CD. Chorus
is actually "Stepping Stone" rip off - a-ei a-ei a-ei a-ei a-ei I'm disco
boy!!! If you don't have this CD yet - GO AND GET IT!!!! It's really great!!!
The Royal Beat Conspiracy RULES!!!

STILETTO BOYS
"BUZZBOMB SOUNDS" CD
High Society International 2000
Stiletto Boys play power pop punk from late
70s/early 80s with some 90s touch. Their biggest inspiration & influence
are Buzzcocks & they don't hide it. They did really nice cover of "I
Don't Mind". Anyway "Buzzbomb Sounds" is really nice power pop album with
nice old fashioned pop melodies. My favorites are: "Throw Me To The Wolves"
(great power pop), "I Didn't Mind" (I must say I like it almost as original),
"Killing Me" (great pop punk) & "E=SB2" (70s punk). I think this album
would be even better if it was faster & more punky like "E=SB2".

DIXIE BUZZARDS/SCAT RAG BOOSTERS SPLIT 7"EP
Goodbye Boozy Records
This is real international trash release - two bands, one from Canada
other from Sweden on Italian label. Dixie Buzzrads (Sweden) play trash
r'n'b with some 50s influences, anyway they don't have typical Swedish
garage sound. They sound more like Gories or like garage version of The
Cramps. I like their side. Scat Rag Boosters are more lo-fi, trash punk.
"Nothing To Do" sounds like trashy version of Crawdaddys & similar harp
driving r'n'b bands. This split 7" on Goodbye Boozy sounds interesting
enough to check their other releases as well.

THE MEAT JOY/MENSEN SPLIT 7"
Fandango Records 2000
I don't know anything about The Meat Joy, but this song - "Catch
(Fire!)" is really great 77/glam punk with great female vocal & mind
blowing solo guitar. If there are more Meat Joy releases I must have them.
Mensen side is also great. They are one of my favorite new punk bands.
I'm really glad I found more from them - anyway this 7" is big MUST HAVE!!!!

BAD AFRO RECORDS PRESENT: WHITE TRASH SOUL!
THE HELLACOPTERS/THE FLAMING SIDEBURNS CD
Bad Afro 2001
I stopped following & buying Hellacopters stuff after their 2nd
album "Paying The Deus". They became too hard rock for my taste, but probably
that's why they became so famous. But maybe I should pay more attention
to their 7"s & 10"s. Split with Flaming Sideburns is really great.
They play 2 covers of Smokey Robinson - really great high energy r'n'r
version of "Get Ready" (it's one of my favorite soul songs). 3rd song they
do is Flaming Sideburns' cover "Ungrounded Confusion" - maybe they should
do more covers - this is great. I'm not very familiar with Flaming Sideburns.
Their 3 songs are also great. It's high energy r'n'r with strong early
70s influences. They also do cover of Hellacopters' "Psyched Out &
Furious" from "Paying To Deus" album. I dig Flaming Sideburns version more
than original. I didn't hear lot of Flaming Sideburns stuff. I only have
7"EP "Get Down Or Get Out" which is really great. Anyway if you see this 10" or CD
just grab it - it's great!
