BINGO
"CLOSE UP" LP
Bondage Records 2000

I've been hearing lot of good music from Italy lately - and I'm really glad about that. It seems there are lot of trashy punk rockin' bands there and they are totally opposite to Italian neo 60s garage bands. They are sick, twisted, raw and fast and I must say - that's what I prefer. Anyway Bingo is great 70s style punk rock with great songs, vocals and production. They are rockin' from the begin to the end of this great LP. I heard they have a 7" too and I must get it!!!!! Unfortunately that's all I know about them, but this is definitely one of the greatest records I heard lately. I don't know what more to say except for: if you still don't have it - go and get it!!!!

THE FLAMING SIDEBURNS
"HALLELUJAH ROCK'N'ROLLAH" CD
Bad Afro 2001

"Hallelujah Rock'n'Rollah" starts really great with high energy mind blowing "Loose My Soul" followed by also great "Up In Flames", which is not so distorted. It's great 70s rockin' punk with fuzz acid guitar solos and great screamy vocal. "Blow The Roof" is pretty groovy and partly in spanish what makes this song more cool to me (I really like spanish). "Flowers" reminds a bit of Lou Reed or Mink Deville's "Spanish Stroll". Anyway, it was relaxing part of this album, 'cos then follow frantic "World Domination", hard rockin' "Sweet Sound Of LUV" and 60s garage punk "Street Survivor". Then they slow again in Iggy Popesque "Stripped Down". "Lonesome Rain" is surf country - sounds like Chris Isaac playing garage punk - I know this comparison sounds stupid, but that's the only thing I could think about at the moment. Anyway it's great song with really great solo guitar work. Album closes with 2 bit longer songs which are ok, but don't really hang in your head. At the end this is one more great Flaming Sideburns' album which must be part of your huge garage punk collection. I also think the guys really deserve all the great critics - so keep up the good work!

MENSEN
"MAN FROM OUTER SPACE/KICKED OUT, KICKED IN" 7"
Nomad 2000

This band just can't stop delivering us good music. Again they totally kick ass. "Man From Outer Space" is typical Mensen song with great guitar riffs and rockin' solo. "Kicked Out, Kicked In" is Dead Moon song (not really my favorite band), but when Mensen play it, it sounds great - I still must say I prefer "Man From Outer Space". I really like the vocal - it gives this band a special sound - it's not that stupid girlie screaming that I hate - this girl can sing!!!!

MIRISIE
"Aliens In A Bra" CD
Freakshow Records 2001

Mirisie describe themselves as "Stooges meet Kyuss, Chrome Cranks meets Sub Pop". Actually I only like Stooges and I think that Kyuss and Sub Pop are shit and I hope we won't get grunge revival. And Chrome Cranks are so-so. Anyway Mirisie is not so bad. It's some kind of noisy/distorted blues rock with very clear and nice production, probably good enough for alternative music program on college radio, but here we need more sweat, more energy, actually more r'n'r than Mirisie can give us. The end of CD is more interesting than the begin - if you forget "My Naked Cousin" last and very boring song.

THE RICHMOND SLUTS
"THE RICHMOND SLUTS" LP
Disaster Records 2001

I was in a local record shop the other day (which doesn't deserve to be mentioned because of too high prices), but I couldn't resist buying this record when I saw the great sleeve - actually the back side which should be the front in my opinion 'cos these guys look really great. But ok, enough about the looks. I don't know anything about Richmond Sluts. It seems they are not so unknown in US, but here in Europe not so many people heard about them. "Take You Home" opens this LP. It sounds like furious Status Quo playing punk with cheesy organ in background. And thank god the vocal is pure New York glam punk style, and you can guess - that's what I like. A side is good. There are some great songs like: "Drive Me Wild" with nice organ, rockin' glam punk "Junkie Queen" and "Drama Girl" - you can compare them with the best New York Dolls songs. But when you turn this orange colored piece of vinyl - you can't believe your ears - great band from A side turns into super mega great 77 punk/glam punk band with great organ. I can go through each song, but I don't feel like it and I just can't find such great words to describe it. The Richmond Sluts just blow my mind - just like New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders And Heartbreakers, DMZ, Radio Birdman, Slaughter And The Dogs... did when I first heard them. Yes it is such great record and be sure to buy it, but try to get it cheaper than I did in fucking expensive dutch record shops.
