THE EXPLODERS
"WHAT'S WHAT AND WHO'S WHO" 7"EP
Teenage USA Recordings 2000
It's difficult to describe Exploders' music style. It's r'n'r with roots in late 70s and early 80s. Honestly I don't really like the singing, but it's just
question of taste. Songs are good, short and dynamic with nice guitar riffs. "Vanilla Gorilla" on the B side could be bit less complicated - I don't
like all this rhythm changes. Not bad, but let's hear the CD.

THE EXPLODERS
"NEW VARIATIONS" CD
Teenage USA Recordings 2001
CD sounds much better. Vocal is better, or maybe I got used to it - ha ha ha. Songs are faster and more punk and more straight to the point. But
still here and there The Explorers like to complicate - like in "Outsmarted" or "Humanoids From The Deep". I think they are much better in nice
rockin' punk tunes like: "Put On Your Wig", "Teenthclencher" or "Hell In A Handbasket". I know the taste can be different, but for me the biggest
minus for The Explorers is that they use too much "stop and goes" and I prefer "drivin' ".

FLAMING SIDEBURNS
"FLOWERS" CD EP
Bad Afro 2002
"Flowers" already appeared on "Hallelujah Rock'n'Rollah" album and it's nice mid tempo song in style of Lou Reed or "Spanish Stroll" by Mink
De Ville. Anyway it's a song with great potential to be a hit and make Flaming Sideburns popular. 2 other songs "Testify" and "Rock'n'Roll
Boogaloo" are recorded live and it sounds great. I'm definitely going to see them on their tour on one of the gigs here in
Holland.

THE JERRY SPIDER GANG
"THIS IS MY LIFE/INTO THE DARK OF THE NIGHT" 7"
Pitshark 2001
The Jerry Spider Gang is already known for the readers of No Brains Zine. This 7" is one more
great record they did. "This Is My Life" is a real killer, very catchy high energy garage punk. B side is more psychotic punk with nice acid guitar
solo. If you like wild energy - Jerry Spider Gang is the band for you.

THE MAGGOTS
"THIS CONDITION IS INCURABLE" CD
Bad Afro 2001
The Maggots are one more good band from Scandinavia - I think they're from Sweden, but I'm not 100% sure. They play garage punk with 60s
and 77 punk influences. Album starts with "It Is Time" - nice hit tune with catchy chorus. I don't know why, but it sounds a bit mod or brit pop to
me (chorus only - the rest of the song is pure garage punk). "Boy From Nowhere" is more raw and punk and is one of my favorites on this album.
"Bring Me Down" is also pretty good, up tempo folk punk with catchy chorus were the vocal reminds me a bit of Oasis, but in a positive way -
this one is also one of my faves and I think it has a big hit potential - oh, why they don't play it 1000 times a day on MTV. "Chicken Race With
Satan" is great r'n'r and I love it. "Maggot Man" is fuzz punk - brain blowing - great great great. "She's From Outer Space" is not only a great title.
I love the middle part with spacey sounds and great r'n'r guitar solo. "Headin' For The Texas Border" is Flaming Groovies cover - not bad, but I
still like Nashville Pussy version more. Album ends with really great garage punk: "Gonna Make You Pay" (maybe it's a cover, but
who cares), "I Wanna Be Your Maggot" with great psychotic middle part + "Uh! Uh! - The Bigger, The Better" after which you only want more.
