BACKWOOD CREATURES "LIVING LEGENDS" CD, Stardumb Records 2002
Funny sleeve - Backwood Creatures really are "Living Legends" - they were with Elvis, Dean Martin, Beatles, Stones, James Dean and even Ronald Reagan - hahaha. OK, now about music. As most bands on Stardumb Records, Backwood Creatures play poppy punk. I'm not really 100% into it, but it seems kids really dig this kind of stuff. Well, the roots are in 70s punk and if it was more to that direction I would probably like it more. But, maybe I'm wrong here, but it's good that music changes. When you hear it few times - it sounds pretty good. My favorites are "She's A Wow" with rockin' guitar, great Undertones feeling and "You Definitely Suck" - great lyrics and pretty good Misfits cover "Skulls".

THE BOLIDES "PROGRESS THROUGH MUTATION" CD, The Binary Bros 2002
There are many mutations of garage music, but The Bolides are the right one. The Bolides product is definitely the best and most unique at today's world market. After many days of serious and hard work at BIRT (Bolides Institute Of Research And Technology) they came up with this great hypnotizing formula:

(garage + Devo(new wave) + surf) x (psych + kraut.rock) = The Bolides

This achievement was realized by using great technology:
load of fuzz electrons
analogue synth special effect generators
rockin gastro screamators
psychotic mindexcelerators
For more information on this product contact The Binary Bros. This mutation product is 100% safe and of no bad consenquences for public health and environment. Please read the manual carefully before use.

THE CHARMS "CHARMED, I'M SURE" CD, Red Car Records 2002
This CD starts pretty good. It's strange mix of garage, pop punk, 70s glam rock, indie... Songs are written by Ellie Vee and I really like what I hear so far. Special ++++ for really great keyboard that gives The Charms' sound extra garagey feeling. Oh no, the sound starts to change from song 6 - "Snowflakes On Velvet". It's all getting sentimental, slow - not slow the way I could like. It's too, I don't know - sounds like bands from MTV, some songs even remind me of that Canadian chick Shanaya Twein (I don't know if I wrote this good 'cos I have no clue how you write her name). I don't know what happened to Charms and why they suddenly went sentimental. Let's say it would be great CD if it was 1st five songs + "Dragon Fly" and maybe "Ragin Angel", but the rest is too soft for my taste - sorry girls/guys. I hope this is similar thing to what you have in cartoons - somebody gets banged in head and goes weird and needs another bang in head to get back to normal. I hope somebody or something will push The Charms back to rock'n'roll road again, cos they really have good potential and they can make good music if they want to.

DOZER "CALL IT CONSPIRACY" CD, Molten Universe 2003
Huh, I really loved "Sonic Reducer" cover on Los Natas split 7". It was hard and heavy but also very punky. It's a total killer and you can listen to it @ No Brains Jukebox. So I hoped this will be in same vain. This is a bit too hard rock / heavy for my taste and as I'm not really into that kind of stuff. So I'm not sure if I can review this CD good. I can't say that music is bad, it sounds good and probably if you're into this stuff you will like it. It's 70s hard rock psych - pretty metalish. Dozer are around from 1995 and they just reunited again. And if it means something to you - this is produced by Chips K. who also produced Hellacopters, Nomads...

THE EVIL THINGIES "NEW SHAPES IN SOUND" 10", Tear It Up 2002
Woooooooooowwwwwwww This is supercool garage punk from Belgium with loads of fuzz and great 60s organ sound. This is pure stuff for real garage lovers - to lick your fingers. And you get this 10" in really cool transparent sleeve. These 2 guys and 2 girls will blow your mind from the first riff of "I'll Make you Pay" - it's nice combination of loud fuzz guitars and organ with great vocal. Production is raw and primitive, but done really great!! "I Want My Money Back" is fuzz garage punk that will appear in the future (about year 3000) on Comeback From The Grave compilations. "Enough Of Your Lies" is more psych with more place for keyboard. More great fuzz riffs you'll get in "Gotta Get A Grip" and "Outside/Inside" (great guitar solo on this one). "It's A Thingie" is great instrumental that opens B side, followed by wild and raw "Hung Up On You". "More Than What I Got" is super furious trashy garage punk with cool organ solo. "I'll Make You Pay Twice" is fantastic r'n'b with harmonica. Last song is most wildest version of "I Can Only Give You Everything" I ever heard. Anyway Evil Thingies are not 60s garage punk revival but 60s punk link to 21st century.
