THE DONNAS
"40 BOYS IN 40 NIGHTS/SCHOOL'S OUT" 7"
Lookout! Rec. 2001

When I saw this 7" I took it just because of B side - "School's Out", cover of famous Alice Cooper's hit. A side you already have on "Turn 21" (if you have that great record). But when I played "School's Out" I was pretty disappointed. Donnas did it pretty bad and without inspiration, so honestly if you are not huge Donnas fan - you don't need this 7" at all - rather play your dusty Alice Cooper original - it's more powerful than this weak Donnas' cover.

THE FLAKES
"BIP BAM BOOM" 7"
Just Add Water Rec. 2001

This is one more band with Russel on drums (Mummies, Bobby Teens, Dukes Of Hamburg, Phantom Surfers) and it kicks ass!!!! It's 77 style punk band. "Bip Bam Boom!" is a real killer and "Roulette" on B side sounds great too. Production is trashy so don't expect some hi-fi sound - well who cares about production. I just hope The Flakes will make more great stuff and till then you can spin this great 7".

GORE GORE GIRLS
"Strange Girls" LP
Get Hip 2001

I heard this band for the first time on tape Dale (Smashin Transistors) sent me and first time I got chance to get their record I bought it. They are all girl band from Detroit and they are definitely the rawest and wildest all girl band I heard till now. Songs are really great and catchy and besides the energy that's the most important thing for me. "Hunt You Down" opens A side and it's such good garage punk that you can only scream, but Gore Gore Girls just don't care and they rock and don't give you much time to catch some breath. "Love Machine" seems to be cover, maybe I have this song in my record collection, but I can't remember it, maybe because Gore Gore Girls version is good, just like "I'm gonna Get You yet" (one more cover unknown to me). "Cattle Call" closes A side in the same furious tempo like it started. Other side is maybe even better. Garage punk/r'n'r very very primitive and just the way I like. I'm tired of writing about his record to you - just go and get it. You won't be sorry!!!

THE INTELLIGENCE 7"EP
Dragnet Records 2000

This is very greeny record - green sleeve, green vinyl. Musically Intelligence sound like trash punk version of early The Fall. There are 5 songs on this 7" EP and they all sound even good, so it's difficult to choose my favorite. Probably some of you won't like this because of new wave influences, but for me this is good record. At least different from most stuff I'm hearing lately. Unfortunately there is no info about adress, email or website.

INTIMATE FAGS
"SIMPLE MINDED/LIGHTNING SPEED" 7"
Freaked Out Frequencies 1999

This is 2nd 7" by Intimate Fags I came across. The first one was really great and this one is a killer too.. Fink from Teen Generate produced this record too and he did great job. Musically it's Japanese trash punk like Teengenerate and if you miss them - here are Intimate Fags - another great band.
