| A FRAMES "2" LP, S-S Records 2003 |
 |
I heard lot of neo new wave (or nu wave, or whatever) bands lately. Mostly they are all from US and honestly I really liked only 2 of them. One is Bolides and the other is A Frames. A
Frames 2 is really, really, really a great
album. It's recorded and mixed in just few days and result is really
fascinating. Well, I'll try to describe their
music in few words comparing them with some known bands - but trust me, A
Frames have their own style and it's a sin
to compare them to anyone, but I'll try. Try to imagine very early Gang Of
Four (ca "Solid Gold" album), Stranglers
("Black And White" album) with power and aggression of X (Australia). Of course
you must not forget very early Joy
Division/Warszaw. A Frames play very powerful post punk with strong accent on
bass guitar, robotic rhythms,
mind-blowing psychotic guitars and ice cold vocal. Still A Frames don't sound
like pure retro 80s new wave band,
their music is great soundtrack for the world of today. The only thing I miss
on this record is synth. Maybe they
could sound even better with synth. But anyway, this LP is a real masterpiece
with or without it.

ANNA AND THE PSYCHOMEN "WILD MAMA" 7", Lo-Fi Records 2003 |
 |
Wow, wow, wow this sounds great. Mix of 77 style punk and garage punk - raw
and rockin'. Anna sounds wild and angry
and she's backed up with best garage punk action you can imagine. My favorite
is "You're Nothing But A Stupid Girl"
- catchy as hell with great chorus. But the other 2 songs are great as well -
more punky zombie killer "Kill The
Brain And You Kill The Ghoul" (with Anna and I think Max on vocal) and "Wild
Mama" - she's the one who's gonna kick
your ass!!. Great, great, great - this is total blast - a must have - killer
7". Make sure to get it!!!!!

| ANTEENAGERS M.C. "(THE) FUTURE ('S COMING TOMORROW) / DOWN IN AMSTERDAM" 7", 2003 SDZ Records
|
 |
Here is the new attraction from France - Anteenagers m.c. with 3 former
members of Steve And The Jerks. It's weird
mix of punky power pop in style of Buzzcocks, Undertones with new wave touch
and now days trash garage punk. I like
their music there is something typical French in it and I think it's really
pity they don't sing in French. B side
is Paul Revere And The Riders cover. It's too punk to get stoned - hahaha, but
good to get drunk in Amsterdam and
take a walk through Red Light District.

| THE APERS "THE BUZZ ELECTRONIC" CD, Stardumb Records 2003 |
 |
This is The Apers 2nd full-length. It's real stuff for pop punk lovers. But
not shitty MTV pop punk, this is real
pop punk - simple catchy songs, but still rockin'. I guess that Apers are
probably one of the Holland's most famous
pop punk bands and it's not without reason. My favorite on this CD is "Too
Many Backpacks At The Show" - not really a
classic Apers tune. It's speedy and raw punk rock. Who knows maybe that will
be the sound of next Apers release.

| BABY WOODROSE "MONEY FOR SOUL CD, Bad Afro Records 2003
|
 |
I'm glad to hear more from Denmark. Actually I've been seeing Baby Woodrose
stuff around, but this is first time I
hear them properly. These 3 guys are pretty good. Well they have that typical
Scandinavian sound. They remind me the
most of Sweatmaster and Royal Beat Conspiracy - specially the vocal, but then
more psychedelic. I like this
combination of hard sweating rock'n'roll, but still kinda acid, mystic and
weird. My favorites are "Hippie Chick"
with nice surfy guitar and psychedelic acid parts, groovy title track "Money
For Soul" with organ and "Never Coming
Back" with great riff and again great organ.
