| BBQ "DAYS / I'M THE ONE" 7", 2003 Goodbye Boozy |
 |
BBQ is Kib Husk one man band and this is recorded live. Result is really
fascinating. It takes 2 people for White
Stripes to do the same thing and BBQ does it even better. Well, music is not
the same - BBQ is dirty swamp rockin'
trash blues. I know there are people who don't like one / two man bands and
I'm also always skeptical about them.
But there are surprises and BBQ is definitely one of them. Specially B side
sounds like normal band - I don't know
what this guy does I just can't believe it's all recorded live - I have to see
it with my own eyes. But who cares
anyway - it's ass kicking music and I love it!

BEEF WELLINGTON "THAT'S ME / NEVER GO THERE AGAIN" 7", dB's Records |
 |
I don't have any info about Beef Wellington. I don't know if it's a band or a
guy. It's monotone and fucked up
trashy mid tempo garage punk blues, recorded lo-fi, but it fits good with
music. Imagine totally drunk Velvet
Underground playing trash punk blues. "Never Go There Again" is total system
failure trip caused by alcohol. Really
weird losers 7" with sick sleeve (and music too - hahaha). I like it!

| THE BLOWTOPS "TOMORROWS SETTING SUN / VENOM VICTIMS WINE" 7", 2003 Goodbye Boozy
|
 |
Huh, this is weird 7". "Tomorrows Setting Sun" starts like trash blues punk we
usually get from this great label,
but then it becomes so freaked out and psychotic. "Venom Victims Wine" is
super fast screamy trash punk - really
fucking great!!!!!!!!! Really cool band from Buffalo, US - I would like to
hear more 'cos these 2 songs are so
different. But 1 thing is fascinating for me - both songs are so psychotic and
manic - you don't hear stuff like
this every day!

| BOB URH AND THE BARE BONES "GRAVEYARD SHIFT / BAD WORLD REVISITED" CDr single |
 |
This is pretty weird CD. Vocal is very similar to Lou Reed, but the whole
thing is not really like Velvets. There is
a Cramps ghost moving around in my speakers and I can feel it. "Bad World
Revisited" is more garage / trash blues
with harmonica. I like this weird stuff!!!

| CATHOLIC BOYS "BRAINWASH CITY" 7", Kryptonite Records 2003
|
 |
I read so many great things about Catholic Boys. I also like Kill-A-Watts and
Teenage Rejects a lot (former bands of
Catholic Boys members). My expectations from this new trash punk super group
were huge. EP also has really great
sleeve, but I was a bit disappointed when I heard the record. It's good, but
it's not really my cup of tea. It
sounds like trash punk version of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Now I
understand why people like this so much.
Unfortunately I didn't get what I was hoping for - something between
Kill-A-Watts and Teenage Rejects and even
better - but ok.
