CHAINS "ON TOP OF THINGS" CD, Get Hip Recordings 2003
More stuff for neo 60s garage lovers from Get Hip. To be honest I thought this was an American band when I heard this CD for the first time. I now see they are from Montreal. Nicely produced 60s fuzz mod garage r'n'b at its best. They also remind me a bit of Flamin' Groovies. My faves are: "Disappearing man" with nice harmonica and "Nothing Left Behind" with great fuzz riff. There are also few covers: "Baby What You Want Me To Do", really strange versions of "Fortune Teller" and "Nervous Breakdown".

CIRCLE "ALOTUS" CD, Klangbad 2002
Circle are from Finland and their CD is out on Faust's home label 'Klangbad' (I'm big fan of Faust and krautrock - I know that may be a bit weird for somebody who is into garage punk - hahaha). I must admit I haven't been listening to stuff like this much lately, so I'm glad to hear this CD. It starts with 2 long trippy kraut psych songs - "Tyolaisten Laulu" and "Alotus" with hypnotizing rhythm, bass that will make you move and groove while psychedelic guitar paints dreams in your mind. "Northern Sky" is short and dreamy psych. "Lopetus" is some kind of weird, bit experimental and very dark psych. "Potto" closes this CD with its great screamy, hard and manic ending.

THE COFFIN DAGGERS "THE COFFIN DAGGERS" CD, Urko Records 2002
Coffin Daggers are instrumental rockin' surf garage punk madness. For me there are 2 very important things about instrumental surf - nice melodies and good playing. Coffin Daggers got them both - amazingly good musicians and great songs. It's perfect music to play in your car or at your wild parties, or even as movie soundtrack. Some songs would fit perfectly in Italian spaghetti western, some in martian sci-fi and others in some great 70s action movie. It's difficult for me to say which are my favorites. I think I prefer songs with organ just a bit more. Probably because they sound creepy and psychotic. Specially cover of Pink Floyd's "Interstellar Overdrive" - great spacey apocalyptic psychedelic surf - strange and weird - surf the way you never heard before!!

CREATURES OF THE GOLDEN DAWN "BLOOD FROM A STONE" 7"EP, Butterfly Records 2003
"Blood From A Stone" is really beautiful neo 60s psych punk tune. It sounds like your favorite tune from US 1967 garage psych records. Really cool fuzz wah acid guitar. "Almost Grown" is more up tempo psych rhythm and blues with harp. B side is more or less in the same style - psych folk punk, fuzz psych. Really nice sleeve and one more nice 7" from Butterfly Records.

CURLEE WURLEE "SOS MESDEMOISELLES / (THERE COULD BE) ONLY ONE / BLACK HAIR / THANK YOU" 7"EP, Butterfly Records 2003
One more great record of Curlee Wurlee - German band fascinated with French 60s ye ye beat, power pop, bubble gum and late 70s punk new wave. Cecil's vocal and keyboard give special dimension to Curlee Wurlee music. It's easy to recognize their style among tones of other bands. They are also good song writers and what else do you need?! Great catchy record for hot summer days.
