69 CHARGER "FROM IDEAL SON TO LOW-LIFE SCUM - THE FIRST FEW YEARS" Roulette's Records 2003 CD
I suppose I should have checked this band long time ago - shame on me (heeheehee). They play quite a lot lately, so I'll definitely go and see them. This CD contains songs from 2000-2002. It's super fast 'low-life scum' rock'n'roll, pretty much like Zeke or Motosierra. Band definitely worth checking out. They will put you on speed with their dirty and fast punk rock. My favorite on this CD is "Pussy Rawk". There will probably be a split 7" with Motosierra - so watch out for that one!!!!!

SHUTDOWN 66 "WELCOME TO DUMPSWILLE" CD, Get Hip Recordings 2002
Shutdown 66 are from Melbourne. 66 in the name says it all I guess. If you like bands like Pretty Things, Missing Links or similar 60s garage freakbeat r'n'b stuff, Shutdown 66 is definitely something for you. This CD was originally released on Corduroy Records as vinyl only. Well if you ask me Shutdown 66 is good band, but little bit too retro for my taste. It's good fun to listen to them and this CD is pretty enjoyable, but I miss a little bit of craziness that bands like Satelliters or many Japanese bands have. Shutdown 66 play music of their idols really good, but unfortunately they don't put much of their own touch in it. All songs are their own and I really appreciate that. I think that this band is probably great attraction live. Unfortunately I didn't had a chance to see them.

LES SLOW SLUSHY BOYS "SLUSH PUPPY / DAS WEISS DER TEUFEL" 7", Butterfly Records 2003
Wow, one more great 7" for long hot summer days. It seems Slow Slushy Boys changed their style a bit on last two 7"s. It's great and I like it a lot. Great instrumental groovy soul with cool organ, brass section and sexy female la la vocal (in "Slush Puppy"). Great tunes to dance, go crazy and have wild party.

THE SPECTORS "BEAT IS MURDER" CD, Get Hip Recordings 2002
Honestly I never heard about Spectors before this CD. I think it's pity because they were really great band with Eric and Keith from Funseekers. This CD is collection of 1992-1996 recordings. It's not easy to say what this CD includes 'cos there is no discography. Press note says that this collection includes 45s + unreleased demos and other recordings. Musically The Spectors are not so easy describe. They have their own style strongly inspired by 60s garage punk and beat. You need song or two to get into it and really start to enjoy it. For me it was the 3rd song - Monk's cover "Oh, How To Do Now" - super cool version. "That Girl Is Leaving Town" is also great Spectors original song - beautiful beat; "Gotta Sow My Wild Oafs" is great wild garage punk ... So I can go on through each song, but there is no point in doing that 'cos everything I can say would be "cool, great, beautiful, ...". I'm afraid that The Spectors were great band in wrong time. They were too different from grunge scene from begin 90s. This CD is here to make things right 'cos Spectors really deserve it. They remind me a bit of Thee Cybermen - great UK band from mid 90s - I hope somebody still remembers them. CD ends with 4 Thor's Hammer covers - 60s garage punk from Iceland (I'm still trying to hear something from this band). These 4 songs were supposed to be released as "Tribute To" EP, but unfortunately that never happened.

SUPERHELICOPTER "MY SOUL / FUCKED DOWN / A LOT OF US / LIVING IN HOLE" 7"EP, Yakisakana Records 2002
I heard lot of praise about this band, but I'm a bit disappointed. Well, it's the first record I heard from them and it seems they have much more. It's trashy, punky, bluesy, lo-fi, but a bit too chaotic, and maybe too hardcore for my taste. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad at all, maybe I just expected too much.
