| ZERO CHILD "LIVE IN MEXICO CITY 2002" CDr |
 |
Zero Child is band with Bob Urg and Tara McMunn from Ultra 5. It's psych
garage rock and roll, but it's really hard
to write about the band from just listening to their live recordings. You know
how it is with live recordings - if
the sound is not so great and guitar not loud enough you can miss all the
energy. And I'm afraid that's the case
with this CD. I would like to hear their normal recordings, if I understood
good from their web site they have 25
recorded tracks that are not released yet. The titles sound really cool,
specially "BIKER BITCH" and "21ST CENTURY
PUNK" that are not on this CD. So I really hope to hear these some day.

EL ZOMBIE "G.T.T.B.M.F.E.P." 7"EP, dB's Records 2003 |
 |
One more lo-fi trash blues duo, but this time from land of cows, klomps,
tulips, weed and bad beer (Heiniken -
hahaha) - Holland. El Zombie is really great and I think they will be the
perfect band for Goodby Boozy label - so
you guys get in touch!!!! "Going To The Bank" is my favorite on this EP. It's
up tempo rhythm and blues with great
guitar, primitive drums, Dutch blues vocal (think Cuby And The Blizards) and
harmonica. "Home Daddy" is cool and
primitive too with slide guitar. On B side is "Hang'em High" mid tempo trash
blues, bit too long and just a little
bit boring because of it. But who cares, this is really great 7", only 200
copies made! Probably not expensive, so
don't be lazy - go to the bank motherfucker, get money and order this EP!!!

| Z/28 "WRECKS FROM THE HIGHWAY" CD, JSNTGM 2003
|
 |
Z/28 are some kind of rock'n'roll punk. Sounds like Elvis meets Dead Kennedys
and Ramones on highway. But I miss
something here. I don't know what exactly. I think it's the production, it's
too clean and guitars sound too neat.
Z/28 sound too nice - guys put more sweat and energy in your next album and
distort the guitars a bit more. Make it
more dirty and sweaty, maybe drink some more beer before going into studio.
"Gun Girl Crazy" or "Light In The Sky"
are really good songs, only if they were recorded better. This can sound much
better.

| SPLIT "THE DONTCARES / EXXON VALDEZ - WE'LL GO AND SPLIT ON YOUR GRAVE" 7"EP,
Lollipop Records 2001 |
 |
I miss Spider Babies a lot, the coolest and the best trash punk band ever and
I'm always looking for similar shit.
But till now I only managed to find Dontcares. They are of course not 100%
same like Spider Babies, but I also don't
expect that and I'm glad they are not a copy, but they have their own style
that reminds me of the legends. They
have dirty and trashy sound that fits so good with their music. They play
great, very fast angry rockin' trash punk,
super great songs, great vocal and I think I'm Dontcares fan! They are from
Sweden (my god how many bands they got
there). 3 songs on 1 side - wow!!!!! They all kick ass!!!!! Exxon Valdez are
from France and they are more hardcore
trash punk - superfast and quite short (4 songs on 1 side including New Bomb
Turks cover). Well, 2 great bands on
one 7" - go and get it if it's not sold out already!!!!

| V.A. "THE EUROPEAN POP PUNK VIRUS VOL.2" CD, Stardumb Records 2003
|
 |
Stardumb is spreading the virus, so we have more bands on this new comp - 28
brand new pop punk killers from all
over the Europe: Scotland, Italy, England, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Denmark,
Switzerland, The Netherlands and even
Yugoslavia. OK there are names we already know like: Manges, Travoltas,
Boonaraaas!!!, Apers, Retarded, Backwood
Creatures. And what can you expect from Stardumb but only the best pop punk
you can get. And here it is, a whole lot
of it on one CD. It's too much to name all the bands, so I'll just mention my
faves: Zatopeks great and weird doo
wopy pop punk killer "Devil In A'55"; fast and furious Battledykes - you
better don't mess with these girls and
guys; Sonic Dolls - well, not really pop punk (hee hee), but great a bit
trashy punk; girl 60s punk Boonaaraaas!!! -
killer; pop punk gods from Italy - Retarded with pretty power poppy and great
"hey ho, you gotta go"; nice "Joey And
Jude" Ramones punk tune by The Waukees; Dirtshakes remind me of Mensen with
their "City Of Tomorrow" - really great
song!; funny and angry Booba Fett Youth and "Mom" (recorded somewhere in
Bavaria) and The Barbecuties - great power pop.
