SPLIT JED WHITEY / IRONBOSS 7"EP, Out Of Loop Records
SPLIT JED WHITEY / THE RETARDOS 7"EP, Oot Of Loop Records |
|
Jed Whitey are Australian hard rockin' punk filled with heat, dust and motor
oil. Ironboss are hardrockin' boogie
band. These guys are too heavy and this song is bit too long for my taste.
Split Jed Whitey / Retardos has pretty
cool gatefold sleeve and record is ugly yellow vinyl (hahaha). Jed Whitey and
"One Trick Pony" is a bit slow and
heavier than their tracks on split with Ironboss. But "Cold Comfort" (Poison
Idea cover) is superfast and great.
Retardos from Norway are my favorite so far. Loaded with energy and anger and
their guitars hit straight in your
brains. They are most rockin' and punky band on these 2 splits. "Crank It Up"
is a real killer with short but great
harmonica solo. "Stop Running Around" is a bit like hard punk version of
famous Swedish 80s garage punk legends -
Creeps. Vocal has this nice souly punk way of singing. This song is also a
real killer. I really hope to hear more
from this band.

Local Oafs are one of my all time favorites. Their music is really fucking
fast, trashy and short - simply great!
Each song is piece of hate. They sing about everyday irritating stuff and
people. Titles and lyrics: "Split My Head
Open And Piss On My Brain", , "123456 Feet Under Ground", "Fuck the world,
fuck all the boys and girls, fuck school,
fuck job, fuck food, fuck clothes, fuck you!, fuck you!, fuck you!", "You
Should Have Been Aborted", "(We Don't Want
No) (Pin Up Girls On Our Sleeves)"... These guys have great sense of humor. I
really don't know how many songs they
play on gigs, but they manage to put a whole lot of them on one side of 7". On
these 4 splits you get 26 songs. It's
pity there are no lyrics with each record, cos it's really really hard to
understand what they sing - well you can
hear "fuck you" a lot. Local Oafs sound like crash of Spider Babies, Legendary
Stardust Cowboy and Charles Manson on
45rpm. But I don't know if this is good description cos Local Oafs only really
sound like Local Oafs.
Now few words about other bands who dare to share vinyl with Local Oafs. The
Manikins remind me a bit of Local Oafs,
but they are not so fast and they are more garage punk and bit more normal,
but crazy enough to love them.
Unfortunately they lost 7:4 from Local Oafs on this 7", they managed to put
just 4 songs on their side. Dyke Hard played 6:6 with
Local Oafs. Dyke Hard is great lo-fi 77 style punk with girl vocal and strange
lyrics - "I Just Want To Choke You
With My Cunt", "Rob'n'Rape A Truckdriver". Great band and hope to hear more
from them. The Pricks lost 5:4, but last
goal wasn't really regular. Pricks are great team - super fast, super trashy
and crazy. Great mach and I really
enjoyed it. I hope they'll play again. Music/Ninja lost 9:3, but they are
great team, maybe a bit weird and
depressed, but that's cool - I like the losers.

| SPLIT - THE REAL LOSERS / POP THREAT 7"EP, Squirrel Records
|
|
Oh my god my head will definitely explode. I like The Real Losers sooooooo
much. I play their records really often
lately and they sound better and better. These are 2 more killer songs with
lot of feedback, trash guitars, great
riffs, loser lyrics. "Tell Me Something" is one of the best songs I heard
lately. If you don't like The Real Losers
- you are fucking loser! Other side belongs to Pop Threat. Musically they are
totally different from Real Losers,
but it's another great band. 2 girls and 2 boys play indie punk garage. Great
female vocal, catchy songs and cool
distorted guitar sound like very early Jesus And Mary Chain (ca "Psycho Candy"
- I love that album). "No Way Out" is
great song, but "Cheap And Vulgar" is real psychotic indie punk killer with
fuck off attitude and analogue synth.
Squirrel Records is label that you should definitely check out!!!!

| V.A. "SOUTH AMERICAN TEENAGE GARAGE PUNK" 7"EP, Butterfly Records 2003 |
 |
It's nice to hear that there is a garage scene today in South America too.
It's pity countries are not mentioned,
but who cares anyway. The Tandooris are more 80s garage with nice wah wah
guitar solo. Los Peyotes are pretty cool -
they play primitive groovy neo 60s garage punk with nice organ and fuzz
guitar. They do it really great. We already
know Elio And The Horribles from split with Flaming Sideburns. Here they do
trashy and screamy version of "Ain't No
Friend Of Mine". My favorites on this 7" are The Supersonicos. They play 2
short psychotic and spacey surf instros.
They have really cool style with special effects and casio synth (casiotone).
This is great 7" from cool Spanish
label Butterfly Records. Really nice surprise!

| V.A. "STRIPPED DOWN, FUELED UP!" CD, Out Of The Loop Records
|
 |
"Stripped Down, Fueled up!" presents 4 bands. One we know very good - Electric
Frankenstein + 3 less known bands.
Electric Frankenstein opens CD with 4 songs. Honestly I was never really
attracted to their music. I can't explain
why. I heard lot of their records and I can't say I don't like it, but I miss
something. Their 4 songs on this CD
are OK, they didn't change their style much. I always thought they will become
more famous - MTV band, but they are
still underground. Jed Whitey seems to be quite known band down under. They
are trio from Mount Lawley. Musically
it's high energy rock'n'roll with strong 70s hard rock influences. To me they
sound somewhere between Nashville
Pussy (2nd album) and Scandinavian bands with AC/DC touch. Maybe it's a bit
too heavy for my taste, but this is good
band. They have good guitar riffs, they are pretty up tempo with hard rockin'
solo guitar. I'm not sure where The
Puppies are from, but I guess they're from Australia 'cos they are hounted by
ghost of AC/DC. They have 2 girls on
vocals and their vocals sound very similar to early AC/DC. Musically they are
bit more punk and not so heavy, but
still bluesy enough. Ironboss is most heavy band on this CD. They are from
Baltimore US. Their music is heavy
highway rock with strong boogie blues influence. "Go, Go, Go" has guitar solo
on this stupid effect that made Peter
Frampton famous. Anyway if you like the combination of ZZ Top, southern rock,
70s hardrock +
little bit of Nashville Pussy dirtiness
- Ironboss is probably something for you.

| LES VIPERES / LES DERAILLEURS 7"EP, SDZ Records 2003
|
|
2 new bands from France that really kick ass. Les Viperes play 77 style punk
in French - totally distorted and
dirty. They rose old French punk revolution spirit from the grave. But they do
it little bit different - refreshed
and great. I specially like that lyrics are in French. "J'veux Rien Savoir" is
great up tempo punk killer, while "Je
Ne Te Connais pas" is more mid tempo in "Submission" (Sex Pistols) style. Les
Derailleurs are more rockin' punk /
punk'n'roll. Also great band with French lyrics. Nice piece of punk shit.
