THE EMBROOKS "BACK IN MY MIND / THE TIME WAS WRONG", Butterfly Records 2003
I really don't know what to think about Embrooks - every record I heard from them sounds different. One was more folk punk, other cool fuzz mod freakbeat this 7" on Butterfly Records is mod psych. Both songs sound like those cool UK early psych bands from Rubble comps - heavy acid psych guitar, cool vocal, nice and weird melodies - very retro, but done really great!!!

EVIL ARMY "CONQUER HUMAN LIFE" 7"EP, Contaminated Records 2003
Evil Army are old school hardcore - sounds pretty early to mid 80s. It's a good band. This record is released on Contaminated Records (Alicja - Lost Sounds). Definitely one of good fresh new labels I expect more great stuff from in the future.

F-HOLE "I NEED A DRINK" 7"EP / "GIVES A FUCK" 7"EP, Your Permanent Records 2001/2002
"I Need A Drink" from 2001 is nice punky record - a bit punk'n'roll with weird Paddy's vocal that reminds me a bit of DEVO. One song is sung by Lizzy and she is good as well. Well, F-Hole have their own style and it's difficult to compare them with other bands. 2nd EP - "Gives A Fuck" from 2002 is a real masterpiece. It's great 77 style punk, but much faster than all these old bands. F-Hole songs are very catchy - it's big improvement - they remind me a lot of early GG Allin. Cool 'fuck off' attitude. I specially love Paddy's vocal here - he lost that DEVO bit from 1st EP. Guitar sounds mind blowing and Lizzy sings also much much better. To make things more clear: Paddy sings on A side and Lizzy sings 2 songs on B side + 1 song is sung by Jake (drums), also really cool. F-Hole are one of the best bands I heard lately. Well, their 'f-hole.com' website doesn't seem to work, but try the other one.

FIRE HORSE JOHNSON "THE LAST MEN ON EARTH' CD, Small Stone Records 2003
Sometimes you can really judge the CD by looking at the cover. Fire Horse Johnson didn't look very promising from the first sight. Also when I played it - it really doesn't sound like anything I would like to listen to - it's boring hard rock southern boogie rock with grunge vocal - totally not my taste.

FRANCINE "LEVEL 8" CD, Bluelight Records 2003
It seems that these guys are really big in Finland - almost top 10 (no. 11). It seems that people in Finland have really good taste, at least comparing with Holland. I wish I can watch this kind of bands on MTV the whole day long instead of shit they show here. Francine are great band for No Brains Zine and I really can't say anything bad about their music - hahahaha. Francine are really great and cool - 3 guys, looking like they just jumped out of Reservoir Dogs movie, playing weird mix of rockabilly, punk and pop with touch of 80s (Cult, 80s indie pop, Stray Cats). All songs are great and could be big hits - very catchy, produced really great with nice arrangements. Francine really kick ass !!!!!! Cool cover of Blonie's "Call Me". My faves from this CD: "Stonecold" (moody rockabilly with nice guitar), "Gotta Get Out" (fast rockabilly garage with great chorus) and "Vincent's Surprise" (great instro with organ).
