MAINLINERS "SHE'S AN OVERDOZE" CDr, 2003
Mainliners sound really fascinating. This band is really great surprise. They are totally new to me and they are mindblowingly great. They sound like they came in time machine straight from 1966/67. 60s garage psych at it's best. It's not very easy to compare them with any famous 60s band. They have their own style - some kind of mix between European (Scandinavian) 66 bands and very early West Coast psych. Anyway if you like Indikation and similar stuff - this is the band for you. The singer is really great as well as the rest of the band. Now I'm waiting for some label to put this on vinyl and that must happen very soon!!!!! And Mainliners guys, if you have any new stuff - pleeeeeeeease let me know!!!! I'm your new fan.

THE MIGHTY STARS "THE MIGHTY STARS ARE GO!" CD EP, Avebury Records 2003
After hearing their first CD EP while ago I decided to check this very young UK band live in Amsterdam. Their songs sounded really cool and great on CD, but when I saw them live - I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EARS!!!! Mighty Stars live was one of the best gigs I ever saw. They were super super super great. They remind me a bit of first Undertones album - not so much musically, but more in sphere and energy, attitude - you know what I mean. The Mighty Stars are not really garage punk, they are just the best new teenage power pop punk band. They have unbelievably good songs, everything fits perfectly here - great teenage boy vocal, marvelous guitar sound, great rhythm section!!!! The Mighty Stars are so cool that I really really hope they'll become the real stars!! When you see them on stage, you can feel their energy and passion for music - they really live what they sing. Unfortunately they didn't have much luck with their studio recordings. You can hear that they have great songs and they know what they're doing, but they really need somebody who can produce it properly, who can understand them, somebody who can help them just a little bit - to release at least 1 masterpiece album - like 1st Undertones LP. CD is great and definitely better of 99% of your entire record collection. You get 5 cool teenage power pop punk beat songs. My favorite is "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" - it just keeps hanging in my head. The rest is also great. Great band and don't make mistake missing their show!!!

THE MINDS "RIP OUT YOUR EYES" 7"EP, Alien Snatch Records 2003
The Minds are mindblowingly cool band. Somebody will call them nu wave, maybe garage trash punk or whatever - well I can say they are just great!! What I specially like is their songs and great sound and attitude that reminds me of 90s garage trash punk scene. Also cool keyboard sound that gives them something special!! I think bands can find or not find good sound in studio, but if they don't have good songs - they'll never move you. The Minds have not only good sound and songs - they are Minds-blowing. I like everything about this EP - they have good sense for humor - lyrics just the way I like, catchy songs - they just took the music I love a bit further by giving it something of their own. Uhggggggggrrrrrrr, now I'm making philosophy out of this - actually it's simple as hell - it's great fucking record and you must have it!!!!! And I just have to get their LP - I'm already very late!!!

THE MUTANTS "VOODOO BLUES" CD, 2003 Ranch
One of my favorite instro bands - The Mutants are back stronger and better than ever!! After billions of great 7"s and 1 great album, I'm nicely surprised with their 2nd long play CD - 'Voodoo Blues'. 'Caligula' opens album really groovy in 60s fuzz garage psych style. 'High Ride' is even more groovy - more soul (a la Stax) with nice wah wah guitar, brass section and cool organ sound. I can go on song by song, but this CD is so groovy, it makes me do nothing - just enjoy listening to it. So you can finish this review yourself after you buy it - I do strongly recommend it. I only hope they'll come and play in Holland or somewhere near by. This groove garage psych mambo just keeps getting better and better.

ORQUESTA DEL DESIERTO "DOS" CD
Orquesta Del Desierto are some kind of weird mix of lot of different music styles. Well, it doesn't sound like very successful mix to me. it's like cooking - it's nice to experiment with different spices, but you need to have talent to do it good. Well, I miss that talent part a bit by Orquesta Del Desierto. It sounds like alternative country rock - americana. I don't like the vocal and the way this guy sings, as well as a bit too complicated song structure. They are good musicians, but not very talented songwriters.
