| STILL NO "ATTEMPT TO MAKE SENSE" CD, R-records 2003 |
It's nice to get something for review, but somebody who sends it to No Brains Zine should check which kind of stuff we review. I don't mind bands like Still No, but I'm not really the right person to write a review for their CD. I can only give my opinion about this album, so here it is: Still No are melodic hardcore band and to me they sound like many of these bands today - not better, not worse - good production, they play good, but their music is just not my cop of tea. Speaking about hardcore punk I prefer early hc bands like: D.O.A., Black Flag or scandinavian bands - specially from Finland. But ok, that's question of taste. I don't like lyrics that are nothing else than watching the news or reading news papers. We all know that war is bad, world sucks, religion is shit and that's nothing new. If you write lyrics put your emotions in them, make it simple, short and shocking - no preaching, please! Anyway punk music today must be more shocking than news 'cos only that way you get people's interest - don't use stupid 'they' word - give us the names, like: Bush, USA, Osama Bin Laden, Dutch Queen, ...

THE STONEAGE HEARTS "SUZIE" 7"EP, Butterfly records 2003 |
The Stoneage Hearts are from Australia, well they are little bit raw and loudy for things I'm used to get from Butterfly Records, but this is just a "+" from my side. Stoneage hearts sound a bit 80s and aussie sound is easy to recognize. "Suzie" is really cool and catchy, but B side is not bad at all - hot desert garage punk with catchy melodies. Cool band - I hope to hear more from them.

| SWAMP RATS "DISCO STILL SUCKS" CD, Get Hip Recordings 2003
Swamp Rats are one of my favorite US 60s garage bands. Their split LP with Unrelated Segments released on Eva Records (French label) is one of my favorite 60s garage records. I was always fascinated with power and loudness of their fuzz guitar, but also sensibility in ballads like 'Here There and Everywhere'. On this CD you get all tracks from Eva rec. LP + 4 extra songs that are also really great, specially 'Hey Freak' with tones of fuzz and great cover of 'Tabacco Road'. CD contains 3 more bonus tracks which are not mentioned on the sleeve. It's some acoustic psych - a bit unnecessary. I think this CD would be better without them.

| THE SWING A-GO-GO BABIES "CRAVATA ROCK" 7"EP, Zurich Chainsaw Massacre Records 2003 |
The Swing A-Go-Go Babies are pure punk , well new punk. They sound a bit more modern than 77 style bands - well they have strong pop punk influence. You get 4 songs on this EP.

| TAXI "LIKE A DOG" CD, Dead Beat Records 2003
Taxi are 4 Italian guys inspired by Killed By Death / Bloodstains records - well the good bands from these comps. "Like A Dog" is really great album - 11 catchy punk songs, recorded and produced totally in the same vain as old punk bands. It's done very well and I really enjoy Taxi punk. Honestly if some people didn't know this was a new band they would probably say it's one of the best 77 punk bands. They can write really catchy songs and good riffs. There are lot of killers here (each song!). My favorites are: "Eat me", "Je Tombe En Bas", "Slot Machine" and "Rabies Is A Killer".
