| CATHOLIC BOYS "PSYCHIC VOODOO MIND CONTROL" CD, Trickknee Productions 2003 |
Catholic Boys finally have full length album. I wasn't very enthusiastic about their 1st 7"EP, but I'm getting used to their weird trashy sound. "Psychic Voodoo Mind Control" is cool album, fast, noisy and more punky! There are still some slight new wave influences. It's really difficult to choose faves 'cos all songs are great. Well, actually there are few songs that keep hanging in my head like superfast and trashy "Teenage Monster", "Takin' The City By Storm" with cool guitar riff and trashy new wave Devo punk "Where Have All The Lovely Ladies Gone". This is the most furious album I heard lately.

COFFIN LIDS "ROCK'N'ROLL" CD, Bomp Records 2004 |
Unbelievable! Coffin Lids are great mutation between Sonics and Mummies. Awesome album loaded with short, fast, rockin' garage killers. Trashy production - just the way I like. It's not as lo-fi as the most of Mummies records, but dirty enough to blow your mind. Songs are full of energy, very catchy with cool guitar sound and great vocal. In some songs they have scary Farfisa organ. My faves are "Night Of The Zombies", "Supercharger", "Vampire Girl", "Eye On You" and "Michelle". There are 2 covers: "Pipeline" and "She Lied". Great CD!

| CRYPT KICKER FIVE - RATTLESNAKE PILGRIM / LADIES / CK5 KNOW HOW TO JIVE 7"EP, Boogaloosa Recordings
Crypt Kicker Five play very primitive voodoo rockin' blues completely acoustic with primitive guitar and lot of percussions. A side "Rattlesnake Pilgrim" is great song with weird voodoo rhythm full of strange percussions as maraccas, drums etc. Song is little bit longer than usual 7" 2-3 minute track, but it's great 'cos it sounds a bit trancey on its primitive way. B side is recorded live at a club, probably with lot of booze and very hot sphere. Boogaloosa Recordings is label run by Jenny from Dixie Buzzards and this is the first release. Well, cheers to it and hope to hear more from this band and label!!

| THE DEFECTORS "TURN ME ON" CD, Bad Afro 2004 |
Defectors are not umknown to regular No Brains readers. Well, it was a while ago that I reviewed their album. It looks they were very busy touring all around the globe. Unfortunatelly Dutch promoters seem to miss them, just like many other great bands. Anyway, here we have brand new album released on Bad Afro. It's great garage punk with killing fuzz guitar and psych organ (Farfisa). Mort Harder is a great singer, rhythm section is rocking, but at the same time swinging and groovy. The most important thing is - Defectors have really great songs. "Brought Up As A Dog" opens this album - little bit unusual, a bit more r'n'r than garage sound. But from the 2nd song, "Pretty Baby" - garage madness starts. My big favorite is "Trick Daisy" - really great garage psychobilly with oriental sounding organ and slight touch of exotica. There are more surprises on this CD like "Sleepwalking" - electro garage psychobilly, or "Getaway Man" - latin garage psych with nice organ effects. Other songs are of course great - wild garage punk with razor sharp fuzz guitar and beautiful and warm psych organ. The closing track "Zoom-Out" is super cool and groovy garage psych. Great album and Bad Afro just keep releasing cool stuff only.

| DETONATIONS "VICTIM / RAYMAN" 7", Rhinostone Records
Detonations are from New Orleans and they play glam punk at its best!! If you like New York Dolls and similar mid-to-late 70s rockin' punk bands, Detonations are definitelly the best choice for you. I love this 45 - "Victim" has great rockin' glam punk guitar sound, honky tonk piano, cool vocal, while "Rayman" is more garage bluesy, but also great! Cover art is really special, done by Tony Campbell (from Sex Pistols Tribute band The Drag Pistols) with cool glittery silver color. Only 300 copies are pressed, so hurry up and get one!!!! I would definitelly like to hear more from this band - they really blew up my mind.
