DIRSHAKES "RETURN TO BOOMSFEELDELIAH!" CD, Valve Records
Dirtshakes are German punk band. This is compilation of all their releases + 1 previously unreleased track + video clips (these I couldn't view on my Mac - unfortunatelly). They are really great fast punk'n'roll with catchy songs, good riffs and cool vocals. This CD is definitelly one of the best punk'n'roll collections ever. Few covers like: The Zero's and Radio Birdman. These guys really kick ass - just listen to "The 80ies Weren't That Cool', "Leave Me Alone", "Kings Of The Boogallo", "Hey Girl". The last song is ode to Joey Ramone and it's previously unreleased. Really cool song called "The CCC Took Joey Away". If you don't have anything by Dirtshakes yet, this CD is a must have!

THEE EXCITERS - DEMO CD 2003
Thee Exciters are from Southampton, UK. I don't know what's happening with UK bands, but everything I got lately from the island sounds very exciting. Thee Exciters are great. They play raw 60s garage punk with groovy rhythm, great guitar riffs and cool screamy garage vocal. I like this combination - they have something of late 80s UK indie scene mixed with 80s garage sound. Don't get me wrong Exciters are raw band - very raw!!! My favorites are: "Pretty Elegant And Neat" and "With You" - cool guitar solo in early The Who style. In their promo sheet they say they are just recording 6 track mini LP that should be released in summer so I hope we'll hear more from this great band!

THE FILTH AND THE FURY - A SEX PISTOLS FILM, 2002
Director: Julien Temple

The Filth And The Fury is really not very interesting if you saw "Great R'n'R Swindle" and "Syd And Nancy". If you expect to see rare Sex Pistols footage and hear lot of music - you will be a bit disappointed. You will also not learn anything new about Sex Pistols. The story is already known, band is still angry on Malcom McLaren and Nancy. John Lydon still feels bad about Syd Vicious who took it all too serious. Julien Temple tried to make nice socio portrait of late 70s in UK, punk and Sex Pistols and it's pity that most of the story is what we already know. Film is very interesting to see and it's done very good - and I guess it's more for younger generations. I just expected more Sex Pistols in action.

FLAMING SIDEBURNS "IT'S TIME TO TESTIFY AGAIN ... LIVE AT GEAR FEST 2000" CD, No Fun Records
Flaming Sideburns are one of my favorite Scandinavian new bands. I really like their great mix of 60s garage high energy r'n'r kbd punk with some 70s soul funk spices. I saw them live once - long time ago in Rotterdam and it was really great gig. It's time to testify again is CD with live recordings, with really great sound quality - it's great album!!!! Flaming Sideburns play really good, choice of the songs is also great. They also play few covers, but not very known bands like Talismen. There is also cool version of "Out Of Our Tree" as well as Flaming Sideburns killers like "Do The Bamalama", "Loose My Soul", "Rock'n'Roll Boogaloo" ... You can hear the sphere of the small club full of smoke and great garage punk sounds. Last song "Bama Lama Loo" is studio track - left over from "White Trash Soul" - great garage punk groovy r'n'b track with harmonica. Flaming Sideburns kick ass. And thanks to No Fun Records for releasing this CD.

THE GLADS "BAD CASE OF THE GLADS" CD, Music For Cats 2003
The Glads are new garage punk'n'roll sensation from Ottawa, Canada. It's band with members of "Dead City Rebels" and some other to me less known bands. The Glads have their own style - great mix of 50s R'n'B, R'n'R and 60s garage. It sounds like Reverend Horton Heat meets Monsters. They have really great fuzz guitar, raw vocal in RHH style, cool rhythm section and great songs. The songs are pretty different from each other. Glads melted lot of styles in their own and that makes this album really enjoyable. It's very difficult to choose favorite songs. There are 12 songs, 2 of them are covers. Great version of "Fashion Conscious" - Syd Barett.
