THE GLASSPACK "BRIDGEBURNER" CD, Small Stone Records 2004
Glasspack are superheavy band. They sound to me like more heavy version of Monster Magnet. Cool riffs and a bit strange and very distorted vocal - goes perfect with solid rhythm section. The sleeve of "Bridgeburner" is really the best artwork for such music. It's highway to hell rock and roll with strong early 70s influence. My favorites are "Gimme Shelter" - really cool heavy acid version of Rolling Stones killer, "Hairsoup", "Gettin Shitty" and "Bridgeburner" - really cool heavy acid psych instros ... Well half of the album is instrumental and it sounds really cool. Really strange and great band. Their label "Small Stone Records" is probably one of the nicest surprise in this pile of CDs I got for reviews.

HALFWAY TO GONE "HALFWAY TO GONE" CD, Small Stone Records 2004
When I heard first chords of "Turnpike" (opening song), I was afraid this will be some metal or grunge band. It's a little bit too metalish for stuff I usually review. But honestly, it's rock'n'roll enough for me to like it. It's really difficult to describe Halfway To Gone. Their sound is very very very heavy - sound like cool and modernized mix of late 60s / very early 70s Black Sabath meet Stooges meet Led Zeppelin. They have really cool singer 'cos he sings "normally" - without all these annoying screams. It reminds me little bit of Metalica, but much more rock. Halfway To Gone are actually trio - guitar, bass, drums. They are really great songwriters. My favorites are "Couldn't Even Find A Fight" that sounds very Stooges like and it's really mind-blowing, "Black Night" (Deep Purple cover) - sounds much better than original more underground and more heavy with cool heavy acid psych solo and Hammond organ, "His Name Was Le Roi...(The King Of Troi)" psychedelic instro with analogue synth, "King Of Mean" early 70s hard rock in Blue Cheer style, "Mr. Nasty Time" - totally different from the rest, super cool jazzy blues with Hammond organ in 60s Ten Years After style. Halfway To Gone are really nice surprise for me. It's not my bottle of beer, but I really enjoy it, so guys take this as a big compliment. I hope I'll hear more from them in the future.

HIGH-SCHOOL MOTHERFUCKERS "WANT SOME" CD-EP, Shotgun Generation Records
Promo sheet says that High-School Motherfuckers started at the end of 2002 as Ramones tribute band. Soon after that they started to write their own songs and I think they did the right thing, 'cos they are very talented. Their music is also different - it's not some boring Ramones copy pop punk band. High-School Motherfuckers play fast and raw punk'n'roll garage glam punk. They are from Paris, France and they say tracks on this CD-EP are 5 of 17 they recorded in studio. There are 4 original songs on this CD + 1 cover - guess which band they covered! My favorites here are "Rock'n'Roll You" (very fast and rawest song on this CD) and "Spider" (catchy and cool glam punk). Great guitar sound and production and I hope to hear the rest of these recordings soon. High-School Motherfuckers are motherfucking cool.

JERRY SPIDER GANG "EXILE ON MAINSTREAM" CD, Lollipop Records
"Exile On Mainstream" is the latest Jerry Spider Gang album released on Lollipop Records. Comparing with their other records nothing new, but good wild and raw r'n'r. Cool heavy riffs in the best style of late 60s / early 70s bands like: Stooges, Blue Cheer, MC5 ... + lot of (high) energy, wah wah fuzz guitar solos and punk attitude. It's difficult to choose some faves, you like it or not. Well I must not forget "Into The Dark Of The Night" where they have horn section that sounds really great and groovy with all these heavy guitars. Here are some more cool titles: "Down In Hell", "Chemicals", "Bilbo Drug", "Casual Sex Don't Make You Forget", "Permanent Vacation" ...

KIM "SOUL STATIC GROOVE" 7"EP, Time Tunnel Records 2003
Kim is 23 years old dude from Bordeaux, France. Promo sheet says he usually gets up at 11 am and then records his songs in his lounge before spending the rest of afternoon playing The Beatles songs on streets of Bordeaux or with his garage band, Coctail Bananas in the clubs. He already has 9 albums and many EPs?! "Soul Static Groove" is the latest one. One side is called soul side - 2 cool tracks, very catchy and poppy, but also very weird, specially "Soul Static Groove" with organ, drum box, weird noises ...; "Evet & Evet" is acoustic, but also nice dreamy pop with strong 60s influence. "Mexican Cafe" opens Mexican side. Also very charming and cool song difficult to describe - sounds like Jonathan Ritchman and Syd Barret jamming together with modern Lovers. "A Loper" is more garage. Kim is definitely very refreshing and super cool. I really wonder how his 9 albums and bunch of Eps sound like! I'm really fan of Time Tunnel Records!
