STELLARSCOPE "FINGERPAINT THE COLOUR OF SOUND" CD, 2003
Stellarscope are really nice surprise. "Fingerpaint The Colour Of Sound" is beautiful dreamy psych post punk album. They call it "etherial post rock", but if I have to describe their music n few words, to me it sounds like psychedelic Joy Division with some Loop, Spacemen 3 and very early Dead Can Dance influences. Still, Stellarscope are different and original. I like their changes from loud and noisy parts into dreamy and psychedelic sphere. Singer has really great vocal that goes perfectly with noisy and psychedelic guitar sounds. They also have some similarity with early Can. There are 13 songs and it's almost impossible to pick out favorites. It's getting late while I'm writing this review and this is perfect after midnight music, great CD before you go to dreamland.

THE STEREO JUNKS "LIVIN BOMB", Star Trash Records 2003
Here is first full length by The Stereo Junks recorded live at Vernissa, Finland. The sound quality is little bit less than on their studio EP, but still enjoyable enough. The Stereo Junks play heavy and noisy 70s garage punk in style of MC5 and Stooges, but also with strong glam punk influence. Their promo sheets says they toured 3 weeks through India, but because of too loud and heavy music they had to leave the country. Here we have 8 songs - 1 Kinks cover "All Day And All Of The Night". There is lot of sweat and hot and heavy rockin' sounds.Check them out if they play in your town.

VANISHING POINT, 1971
Director: Richard C. Sarafian
Staring: Barry Newman, Dean Jagger, Cleavon Little ...

Vanishing Point is great road / car chase movie from 1971. Action starts from the first second and goes on in super fast tempo till the end. Kowalski Vietnam veteran, ex cop, ex demolition derby driver does races against time and police. He is typical American anti hero - lone stranger on speed. Film is full of strange personalities like Supersoul (blind black radio dj), nude girl on motorcycle, snake worshipper, Jesus freaks ... and also bunch of stupid cops. Great movie with lot of car crashing and the most unusual car chasing scenes. Weird soundtrack from country to gospel, from funk to heavy acid psych. Very entertaining movie you can watch many times without getting bored - typical 70s cult.

THE VEINS "HOLLYWOODLAND" CD, Garage-Pop Records 2004
Funny thing is that the label who put The Veins CD out is called Garage-Pop Records. Actually the best words to describe The Veins is garage punk pop. Their songs are very melodic and catchy with cool loud garage punk guitars, great vocal. It's really weird style I never heard before, at least not such combination. But I must admit I like it a lot. Dandy Warholes tried to do something like this, but they were not garage enough. Maybe this is not the best comparison. There are 13 songs on this CD - 12 killers (6th song is just 30 seconds long). If you can imagine Suede playing garage punk (more in style of Scandinavian bands) - you will get The Veins. Of course they have also something of their own. Cool CD, cool band, cool label - hope to hear more from them!

THE WHOCARES "THAT'S RIGHT" MINI CD, Give Me Gold Records 2004
The Whocares are from Belgium. Their promo sheet says they are inspired by MC5, Ramones and Radio Birdman - well, it is sort of late 70s sound. If you ask me you can better compare them with Scandinavian bands around Bad Afro label. Influence of MC5 is for me stronger than Ramones and Radio Birdman. Whocares are good rockin' punk band and I guess they kick ass live. I think production is little bit too clean, but this is their first release - so maybe next time it will be more dirty.
