69 CHARGER "TRASH DELUXE!" CD, Stardumb Records 2004 |
69 Charger are already famous Dutch super speed garage punk rock band. I can't catch my breath listening to their CD. All songs are very fast, but catchy enough. They don't have metallic influences like their city mates Peter Pan Speed Rock - they are pure rock'n'roll with lot of energy, sweat and of course beer. 12 killers - you can't say which one is better - they are all good 100% pure r'n'r and all you need is more when this CD is finished. So you play it on and on. Great band!!!

A FRAMES "CRUTCHES" 7"EP, Royal Records 2003 |
A Frames are one of my favorite nu wave bands. "Crutches" EP brings us 3 new tracks more or less in similar style like their last full length album "A Frames 2" - trashy neo new wave with strong 80s influence. What I specially like about A Frames is their great mix between trash punk and new wave - cool trashy guitar sound, loud post punk bass and drums and cold vocal. On B side there is a really nice surprise - cover of "Weissenesee", originally by 70s German kraut rock band Neu. Of course A Frames did it on their own way - noisy trash kraut punk wave. "Weissenesee" is a bit long, psychotic, dark and depressive psychedelia. I really love 70s German kraut rock scene and bands like Faust, Can, Neu etc. This is big + for A Frames! Overall great EP.

| ALIEN TIKI GODZ - DEMO CD
When you hear the name Alien Tiki Godz, you probably expect some instro surf band. Their promo also says that Alien Tiki Godz started as instro surf band, but involved into weird mix punk, garage and surf. Well, there is not much surf left in their music, but who cares. Alien Tiki Godz are cool - they rock and kick ass. They definitely have their own style and know how to make good, catchy and garage punky songs. I really love their a bit old fashioned guitar sound as well as a bit 70s vocals. On this 7 song demo CD next songs are my favorites: hard rockin' garage glam punk killers "Distance", "Little Boy Lost", "Without Your Love" with strong mid to late 70s influence and weird heavy surf cover of "Dead Ass". I really like to get demo CDs from unknown bands who kick ass, have their own sound and don't care about what's cool at the moment. Alien Tiki Godz are one of them.

| ALMANDINO "ABSOLOODYLUTELY" CD, Suitside 2004 |
It's really difficult to describe this fucking weird band from Italy. 2 girls on guitars + guy on drums play something they call "rockin' blues", but to me it sounds like modern version of Captain Beefheart. This mini album on CD is pretty jazzy, avant-garde, but of course with strong blues roots. Songs are mostly instrumental with here and there a bit of singing with very minimal lyrics - 1 or 2 words. Music is very heavy and psychotic and you have to be in the special mood to listen to this. Anyway, they have very original style and they are pretty cool. My favorites are "Washerman" - sitar blues miniature and "I'm Going To Put My Foot Down" - wild rockin psycho blues with great voodoo rhythm and cool wah wah and slide guitars. If you get tired of garage trash punk bands and you want a change, try Almandino.

| APOCALIPSTICK "NOW" CD, Bazoom Records 2004
Reading and viewing Apocalipstick's press info, it looks like this band is pretty interesting to see live. They put a lot in their stage show. It's girl fronted new wave punk 4 piece band from San Francisco. They sound very early 80s with slight garage punk touch, sm female dominant and sexually charged sound. Their 6 song promo CD is produced very well - songs are really cool and interesting with great vocal by Jackie O Nasstie. Only by this kind of bands I really miss keyboard or synth. I really don' have any other objections about Apocalipstick sound and music. Their songs are really cool and I like them a lot - they are definitely one of the better in this genre together with Lost Sounds and A Frames. So guys, please try to find somebody to play synth / keyboard. My favorites are "Lick", "Lolita Backwards" and "Whoop-Ti-Doo".
