EVIL THINGIES "CHANTE / I CAN ONLY GIVE YOU EVERYTHING" 7", Kinky Star Records
On this 7" you have 2 versions of famous Them killer "I Can Only Give You Everything" and they are not available on Evil Thingies 10". One version is in French and is with girl vocal, another is English version with guy on vocal. Well, what else to say about this already legendary garage band from Belgium who dedicated this 7" to famous 60s killer. For raw fuzz organ garage punk lovers - don't miss this!!!

THE FINE LINES "THE FINE LINES" CD, Licorice Tree Records 2003
The Fine Lines are new discovery for me and probably for most of you who read this. It's trio from Texas, 2 guys: guitar and vocal + drums and girl: bass + vocal. It's cool garage trash punk recorded very primitive and loud - just the way it should be and the way I like. The Fine Lies sound like US version of Headcoats meet Headcoatees. So if you can imagine a bit more primitive and louder band, you 'll get The Fine Lines. Even the vocals are similar to Billy Childish, but I would say Justin is maybe even better singer. Well he sounds more like young and angry Billy Childish from early Milkshakes days. Trista has cool angry deep girl (not too screamy) vocal too - it's pity she doesn't sing more songs than just few. 14 songs, no covers - all 14 real killers with great garage punk riffs and catchy enough songs. It's impossible to pick out the faves, cos the quality is so good - album you're waiting to hear for years.

THE FIREBIRD BAND "ARCHIVES (THE FIREBIRD SUITE 1996-1998)" CD, Lucid Records
I really don't know how to describe this band. The Firebird Band is not actually the stuff I'm reviewing everyday. Their music is weird mix of alternative rock, punk but also noise rock. It's not really my taste, but it's not bad at all. Some song remind me a bit of Sonic Youth. Well if you like this kind of stuff, check The Firebird Band.

HATEZINE #8 - SUMMER 2004
Here it is, a summer issue of Hatezine with lot of cool stuff: interview with the director of "Zombie Chomp" (didn't see this one, but sounds good), everything about how to order a movie from the net for cheap, The Woggles, Texas Terri + gigs and records reviews and of course diary of Hatemachine continues. You can even read about weird mystic cult of ancient Greece - orphism, a day on Nude Island in Eugene ... well this guy Rocco can surprise you with each new number of his zine.

THE KNIGHTS "IN PROGRESSION" CD, Lance Records
The Knights are really weird, so called surf instrumental band. They have 2 guitar players: Jason - modern guitar and Dick traditional guitar. Well I don't know what they exactly mean with traditional - I guess 60s surf guitar sound. "In Progression" sounds like rock metal freak, Joe Satriani or the other guy with very complicated name Yngli Malstane (or something like that), plays surf. I never liked such metal, but combination with surf sounds really cool. The Knights are really enjoying to play such weird crossovers, 'cos there are lot of weird styles mixed and melted into surf on this CD. For example "Ragtime Surf" - the title says it all, "Awakening" sounds like jazzy rock surf while long version of "Pipeline" sounds a bit metalic and very original. "Shelbi With An "I" " is cool exotic surf. "Simple Wonders" closes this weird album in the same - weird style - trancy psychedelic guitar surf. Anyway, don't get me wrong, besides all these different styles and subtitle "A Progressive Surf-Rock Instrumental Adventure", The Knights did really cool surf album - they let their imagination lead them and I guess they had fun doing it, but also it's great fun listening to this CD. Also very important, The Knights wrote most of the songs.
