LEOPOLD KRAUS "WELLENKAPELLE" CD, Kamikaze Records 2002 |
Leopold Kraus "Wellenkapelle" are from Germany - as you can see on the sleeve. Well, their style is some weird mix between surf, exotica, schlager und NDW (German new wave). They use Farfisa organ and Moog synth and it sounds really great! 14 tracks all of them super catchy and great. Their style reminds me a bit of Los Banditos, but musically they are different. Leopold Kraud is sooooo super cool. If you don't have this CD in your collection, you don't know what you're missing. This CD is a real masterpiece.

THE MOCKER MONKEYS "DEMO + LIVE AT THUNDER ROAD 04-04-04" DEMO CD |

The Mocker Monkeys are from Italy. There are 8 demo songs + intro - famous Ringo Star's "mod rocker - mocker" joke from "A Hard Day's Night" movie. Futher Mocker Monkeys are really cool garage punk with strong surf influence. "I'm Waiting For Irene" is real killer - great and super weird instro surf with cool Theremin space effects. I really like that Mocker Monkeys like to use Theremin, 'cos it fits really great with their sound. "Car Crash" is kind of space surf garage with cool riff, "Everyday And Everynight" is more garage psych with groovy hammond organ and cool acid psych wah wah guitar solo. "Ara's Foot" + "Whan I See You Baby" + "King Of Fuzz" - catchy, wild and fast garage punk, organ + fuzz guitar + cool vocal with charming Italian accent - all real killers. "SOS Mademoiselle" is groovy garage with kinda boogaloo rhythm. One more personal fave - "Don't Tell Me" and probably the best song - great garage psych freakbeat. What I like about some Italian bands is that they can be very crazy with good sense for humor - The Mocker Monkeys are one of them, but don't get me wrong, they are no joke, these guys are really cool. Live part of CD is also great - well sound is little bit less, but good enough to enjoy it! It sounds like The Mocker Monkeys are great band to see live. To me vocal sounds even better live! Only they speak too much between the songs - but, as they are Italians I can forgive them - hahaha. There are few songs that don't appear on demo recordings. "Irina From Russia" is my fave - cool and weird instrumental with Russian music influence.

| MONDAY'S HERO "LOVE CARRIES AN AXE" CD, Lucid Records 2004 |
Monday's Hero are I guess emo core. I really don't like this - sorry guys. It's not my type of stuff. Lucid Records sent 3 pretty different CDs. The Firebird Band were more in Sonic Youth style and Blackouts are really really great with strong garage influence. I guess Lucid Records are more indie oriented, but I'm glad they sent these CDs. Unfortunatelly Monday's Hero are just not the right type of stuff for me to review - that's all.

MONSTER MAN, 2003
Director: Michael Davis
Cast: Eric Jungmann, Justin Urich, Aimee Brooks |
Adam and Harley are on a road trip, heading to see Adam's dream girl who's getting married to some other guy. Adam wants to declare his love to her before she gets married. Their trip eventually becomes a nightmare when they come across huge hungry for flesh monster truck with blood thursty driver. Let the blood derby begin! A real gore masterpiece - mix between "Duel", "Texas Chainsaw Masacre" and "Braindead". It has the best elements a great horror needs - simple but good story, lot of blood and entrails, gore and funny moments. If you like bad taste horror movies, make sure not to miss this one.

| POP RIVETS "GREATEST HITS" CD + "MT SOUNDS FROM ANARCHY RANCH" CD, Damaged Goods Reords
After few vinyl reissues finally we have the proper vinyl and CD reissue of 1st two Pop Rivets albums on Damaged Goods Records. "Greatest Hits" is the first Pop Rivets album released 1979. It's legendary kbd punk album with very young Billy Childish. Well it's angry, primitive and wild UK kbd punk and if you are old punk collector, you should already have this album in your collection. "MT Sounds From Anarchy Ranch" is the 2nd Pop Rivets album and it's more or less in the same style, maybe even more angry and wild. CD includes few covers like The Kinks "You really Got Me" and Troggs "Wild Thing". These 2 reissues are also very interesting 'cos the original tracks are remastered from the master tapes. Sound is really good, the sphere of raw and primitive recordings is kept very well. Damaged Goods did great thing by rereleasing these 2 albums. Early Billy Cildish stuff still sounds really fresh.
